This is another of the AFV Club Centurians, this time the S'Hot from 1967. I'm almost finished with the tank, and have started the tank commander figure.
Paint is a 50-50 mix of Tamiya Buff and Medium Gray. Oils and enamels were used for detailing. I used the AFV Club vinyl mantlet cover and individual link tracks.
Weathering to come.

Here's a teaser with the TC in place. I painted him with Vallejo acrylics and used a ever so light wash of burnt umber oil on the face and hands. I tried to capture those yellow green uniforms. This guy has a flak jacket on and I remember how dark and disgusting mine was after a few days, so I went for that look as well. G

Nice finish on this one G. Desert dust is very fine and pale, so if you aren't looking for pigments (I use MIG Gulf War Sand pigment myself), then a good alternative might be finely ground chalk or similar.

Nice Centurion, I don't think I've ever seen anyone else do something other than green on one of these. To me that makes it nicer yet. The area I live in, no one seems to know what pigments are and I hate buying something like that without seeing it first (mail order). What I do, with varying degrees of success, is to take a slightly lighter shade of the ground color, thin it down heavily (70-30?) regulate air at 40-45 psi, and turn down the AB nozzle 'till the mix just barely comes out, and then proceed to layer. You'll want to allow a bit of drying time between layers as one of the great failings of this method is it's easy to overdo, especially in a high color contrast situation.
Regards, Mark

Love this! The IDF color seems right on to me! fig looks good:) I agree with Bill, Mig Gulf war sand works great for dust or you could just use a light sprinkling of tamiya buff.

Nate I believe this is what I will have to do, I just have to find a source for the Mig pigment.

WHOA! I missed the ending... wait a minute... I had a perfect excuse I was on vacation in Florida for boys spring break. Will you ever forgive me?
Great finish!!! Likewise I like to add figures to armor builds too because it simply brings life.

You get a pass for vacation, next time though.....................
It's amazing how one figure adds not only some sense of life, but size to a build.
This is a big tank, but look how the figure, of what I presume to be an average size man, takes up space in the the hatch.
I love tanks, but there's a reason I was a grunt. I'm not now, nor have I ever been, considered average size. I just wouldn't fit!
The other issue is riding around in a vehicle that everyone develops weapons to destroy isn't really my thing. When the shooting starts I can make myself really really small if'n I have too.

I have two of those kits in my stash, and one is the Isrealie kit. The other is the Australian kit. Kinda want one more later version, but for some reason they're hard to come by in my neck of the woods. Nice build! gary

Looks GOOD, G. For pigments, I hit the local art supply store, or even Hobby Lobby for pastel chalks grind 'em up.

WOW! It really looks great! Especially the rust on muffler guards... they look spot on. I thought about doing to the same to my older builds but my wife made a good point... why not leave them so I can show everybody how I have improved over time. Man, I am torn... LOL

The rework of the weathering did the job. It has really improved from the original.

I like the additional weathering a lot. The heat-blistering of the paint on the muffler covers is very well executed.
