Afternoon all. Welcome to the birth of Tyrannadile. I need a fearsome creature for a dio I have in mind. I the best I could find were Tamiya's Mesozoic creatures. Attachment Deleted Unfortunately None of them are fearsome enough. especially when you see how small they are.Still, I got 6 creatures for a tenner. Thats a 1/48th figure in the pic So, out comes the dremel. After some highly precise measuring, as in looking at it for 5 mins and thinking "Yup that should fit". I cut the heads and tails of the T-Rex and Crocodile. Now it's the T Rex body with the Crocs head and tail. There's some work to do blending the joins, but this is where i intend to learn another new skill. I brought some stainless steel wax sculpting thingies. I'm hoping they're strong enough to carve milliput. I'm also going to give it wings. im going to use 1mm electrical wire for the armature then some form of mesh and yet more milliput I'm going to try and reshape the head to add more Dragon and less Croc.

Thats my first ever armature built..Wings drawn on and cut from paper. 1 mil electrical core cable cut and bent to shape. Then tape it all firmly down. Attachment Deleted I am seriously chuffed. It holds its shape perfectly and i can try any pose i want with them. Attachment Deleted I also tried adding some horns to the head, but they didnt work. As you can see, they don't look right Attachment Deleted

That's the neck built up and the tail join smoothed over. Lots of tidying to do when it dries. When i make the final version of the wings, i'll be using a single length of wire for the entire span. So, out comes the trusty Dremel. 10 seconds and one perfectly cut groove later, mounting point made. Attachment Deleted I'm hoping to add soulder blades so it at least looks like it's got the power to flap its wings.

Cheers for all the encouragementguys .I'm in awe all off your works. Everyone of them is Gobsmackingly good. One bonus thing i found out was that where i'd been shaping the milliput with my fingers tip, is that i could get a nice texture to match up the head and neck. Whether it survives drying, final blending etc, remains to been seen. Some how me thinks not.

I've decided to use the Para as a test mule. I've never tried natural colourings before. This was masked off with paper and as you can see it didn't quite work. Next i needed to do something with the remains of the croc. The croc was masked with white tac to soften the edges. So that's what I did, turned it into remains. and finally a quick test of part of the layout for part of the dio. Attachment Deleted

I've been faffing about for ages trying to get a wing shape i'm happy with. Tis is as close as I can get. I want it to look big enough to actually look like flight is possible without being bloody massive and dominating the entire dio when it's only a part of it. Attachment Deleted

With the shape finally settled, onto the wing material, i tried rubber gloves, meshes, netting, none of which worked, and then me mate Albert had a brain wave. cheap kitchen cloth. Attachment Deleted Used with fabric glue so far it all seems to be working. Once its dry i'll see if its pliable for final shaping. Here's hoping. I've glued cloth to both sides and its smoothed out the wire nicely.Lets hope it takes paint. Attachment Deleted

Yay! The plan worked. I have pliability. First shaping of the wings and im happier than i've been so far. Attachment DeletedI have a bit of tidying up to do around the back of the wings were the glue hasnt sealed properly. Attachment Deleted I gave trhem a coat of primer just to see how they looked. Silly me. Kitchen cloth is how absorbant lol.. I used loads of paint and it just looks a bit faded. So, tomorrow i'm going to PVA them and try again.

Theres not a hope of it flying lol. This will be only creature in the dio as all te rest are vegematarians and look harmless. I may use this as a practice for making a larger version as i found quite a few vinyl dinos/monsters out there that are a fair bit bigger than the ones i have.

One busy afternoon later..Humbrol dark brown was used as the base coat and British racing green car paint for the upper surfaces. It was the only paint I had spare. The mouth has had a quick coat of airfix red and white oil paint for the teeth and claws. After looking at the pics i notice the red needs to go right down his throat. Cos it's so bloody small i have to take pics on the me phone, put em on the puter and see them close up properly for the first time. Still a fair amount of touching up, aging etc left to do Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted
