Nice choice of kit Andy - always liked these. Glad to hear that you and your family (and especially the stash ) are all right. Thought you might enjoy this: Yellow Duckmarine the earlier mentioned sight-seeing ducks in Liverpool (I think I've seen them in London too?) If my stash wasn't bursting at the seams I'd be very tempted to build one - living in L'pool, it'd be easy to get ref pics Cheers, Dierk

LOL! Thanks guys... you sure know how to make me smile. It has been a hectic week... lighting incident, another business trip, and basement partially flooded last night... weather has been so ugly here in Indiana. It was high 75-80 yesterday but today low will be only 32-35.
Dierk, thanks for the link! That's the one I almost got on with my wife during our trip to London years ago. Now I wish we did but our schedule didn't permit. At least my wife allowed me to visit Imperial War museum which was awesome!
Sorry for being short as I am heading to another major event for work but I wanted to let you know my company had a booth at Seniors expo inside Auburn Victory Museum where AMPS National was held last year. I was really looking forward to it but disappointed to see nearly half of armors gone when I got there. I will post pictures over the weekend...
Again thanks for taking your time to comment on the Duck and my family.

cool update Andy! Glad to see your son is getting into modeling too. Very cool. I'm still working on my two oldest. They're hit or miss with it though. Just a thought for sanding wheels (or round things in general) if you have more to do, put them into your dremel or cordless drill before you cut out the center, and turn it on (slow) then all you have to do is turn it sideways on the sanding stick/paper. Works great for smoothing rough cut round things to perfect circles as well:) I prefer the dremel for this because the cutting disc attachment bit has a screw on the end that you can affix any piece to with only a small drilled hole.

Your DUKW looks cool ! So much extra detail makes it really interesting, and fun to paint later. Those tires will be a nice addition to the model, good idea to use them for this purpose !

Nate- My boys are like your boys... hit and miss... so far it looks like they enjoy large figures of James Bond and Super Heroes more than anything else. Thanks for the great tip about using Dremel... never thought about this. Robbo- No way! You are not too late... we were running low on beer so it was perfect timing for you to bring in more, right? AG- Thanks! Found the picture with old tires when I googled earlier... that's what gave me the idea. Leon- Thanks! Glad my family is OK. Let's hope the tree lives because it would easily cost me hundreds or even thousands to have it removed if it doesn't survive. Guys- Sorry... no update... traveling, partially flooded basement, out of state guests kept me away from my work bench. But I thought i'd post pictures of the DUKW I managed to check it out during my break. I work for a company that provides free telephone service for people with hearing loss. And we had a booth at a Senior Expo in Auburn. Guess where it was held at??? Look at the long line of senior citizens... Some of you might have recognized it... that's where AMPS National events were held in the past. Unfortunately the museum has been struggling financially for years that they sold a lot of its collection. DUKW was still there but it is listed to be sold in upcoming auction (I think this weekend) unfortunately... See posted paperwork for auction? Top front... Top rear... Thought you would enjoy pictures I took... hope to post an update soon.

Nice one Andy! I love that place:) Its a shame they are forced to sell some things:( Your pics reminded me, I saw a vendor table at AMPS where they actually sold those woven rope bumper thingies for the DUK as seen in the 3rd and 6ht pic above. They were really nice and may be worth looking into for your build. Just a thought buddy:)

Sounds like you made the most of the business trip Andy! Nice reference pics. Hope the flooding isn't too bad in your basement. That's one thing we don't have to worry about here in the desert...no one has basements!

Leon- I posted the pictures just for you so you can build a DUKW in 1/72 of course. LOL Bill- Thanks buddy! Love going on business trips... it doesn't happen often. When I do, I like to visit local hobby shops, military museums or historical sites if possible. Lived in this house for 8 years... only flooded twice but not too bad. With plenty of towels and blankets we were able to contain the water. G man- Thanks!!! God, I wish it was easy! But let me tell you a secret... my boss will be on vacation this week. You know what happens when the cat's away... mice comes out playing. Nate- Yep, planning to order those aftermarket sets soon... my wife is monitoring the credit card statements very closely now. LOL Wish I can use cash... untraceable. Love this place.. will come back but am afraid it won't be the same. Have you been to Ropkey Tank Museum in Crawfordsville, Indiana partially in middle of a ferkin' corn field? AWESOME private collection but open to public. Posting more pictures from my recent museum visit... am afraid it will disappoint you. First section of show room... now empty except for uniforms and small stuff. My fav item... the 88... up for auction. Remember awesome 8 ton HT hauling it? Gone already... I read somewhere 88 bidding starts at $75,000... I don't think my wife loves me enough to let me have it. Remember another cool German machine? RSO... up for auction too. Well, I don't think we will ever see AMPS National in Auburn again...

I think my GMC could handle the 88!! RSO would be cool too, but would have to swing by Gary's and have him lay down some better camo sceme!! LOL!!

What a shame! There were prolly 10+ vehicles in that room, if I remember correctly. I think this is close to the same angle.

Andy
I never has any idea of what size the "plugs" that are racked on the left bulkhead next to the operator but that picture you took showing the operators seat/control panel and steering wheel has a rack in the corner that would indicate that those plugs on that side were near the size of today's pleasure boat plugs. I'm sure the ones on the right side of the craft were more like 3 or 4 inches in diameter.

Mr T- LOL! I am glad I am not alone... thought the camo job wasn't that great too. But the 88 looked great! Just keep your eyes shut while Gary paint better camo scheme on it in his top secret outfit... Nate- Am afraid you are correct. I remember there were several vehicles in first section... Pete- LOL! Teasing? OK, here's couple more just for you. LOLOLOL They are my two favorites... the only Ausf C survivor in the whole USA if I recall correctly. And a Marder and its nice camo! Garage- One more for you my good friend... enjoy! Ray- Glad you liked the pictures. Hope they have gone or are going to other museums instead of into private collectors but at least they will be in good hands. I haven't decided how I will have it weathered... LOL but want to have something like that. Bones- That's what I am planning to do... create plugs out of thin styrene sheets. Also there is a rack for larger plugs on the other side but unfortunately I damaged the PE piece beyond repair so I will have to create one from scratch. Guys- Sorry no update... weather tomorrow doesn't look too good again with minimum of an inch of rain so I had to plug holes to prevent water from leaking into the basement again.

Guys- LOL! Thanks... thought you would enjoy those pictures. I don't think I will ever see them again but I am grateful I had few chances you know.
Carl- Yep, my second Italeri kit... first was that Chaffee long before AFV or Bronco released better kit. You may be right... its the only DUKW kit for 1/35 and it has been great. Fitting has been perfect and you only need to do something about the wheels. That's why I got MIG resin wheels set.
I haven't been to my work bench for nearly two weeks because of work but right now I am finally working on the duck while making quack sounds.
Hope I will post an update soon...
