LOLOLOLOLOLOL! Here's quick update... felt great spending time at the bench tonight after two weeks. Many thanks to our friend Teabone.. he sent me a CD of DUKW manual. It is my primary reference to help me build... here's a snapshot to give you an idea. PE part broke into three pieces so I had to make one from scratch. Love my little bug! Another great tool to make plugs out of styrene sheet... Hope you like it... plan to add nuts later. Added tissue damped with white glue to the seats for texture... my first attempt... hope it looks good tomorrow when I cut the excessive parts off. Sometimes I wish I was a dog... worry free! Thanks for looking... tomorrow will be a long day at work... booth at big event at the fairground all day and night.

Looking good Andy for your first attempt.Nice job on the PE bracket. Wow Andy, You really are turning out some amazing stuff brother! I mean, not just your completed builds but the time spent making that PE bracket thingy with the round punched Styrene thingies? Amazing! I used one of them Bugs for a PE job at a friends house and was totally amazed by how good and effective it was - I must get one but they are not cheap as you probably noticed when you bought it! Must get a hroper hole punch too. Impressive my old mate, Really impressive Ben

Nice to see some progress Andy, the wolves around here get testy if you promise updates and don't deliver! The duck is coming along fine, the replacement PE work and details are nice touches.

Andy
Great bracket and I have long wondered what the leather punch would turn out. The thickness would certainly be a problem with a punch unless you layered it or had a real heavy duty punch.
I take it you got the last disk I sent.

THANKS GUYS! Always good hearing from you... just got home from long day of work.
Leon- That part was even fun... I should do this more often. Now I understand better why Dicky enjoy this kind of stuff.
Ben- Believe me you will like it. My only regret I didn't buy the bigger set... this one is the smallest and I am already thinking about getting bigger one already since I am doing more PE work now. That second tool is leather hole puncher... $25 or $30 at fabric store but its worth it as I have been using it more now. Thanks mate!!!
Bill- I know what you mean... wolves can not stay hungry forever. Gonna feed them something... that's why I had to post pics from the museum even tho not all were related to DUKW. LOL
Bones- YES! Got the second DVD yesterday in the mail. Will look at it tomorrow... can't wait to see it. Believe me the manual has been very helpful... gone thru 100+ pages twice and probably will do it again. Owe you big time!
The only problem with the leather puncher... sometimes it is hard to get thick styrene out. I use long metal rod like hanger... insert into the hole other side to push it out.
Luigi- Thanks buddy! Glad you liked it. Shame that Italeri didn't inclue those brackets and plugs on both sides... they do bring character to the cockpit. Gary- Thanks brotha! Can't wait to check the seats to see if they comes out OK. I thought you already have one of those hole punchers for your body piercing hobby? LOL

I agree with the thought that those plugs and brackets could have been simple parts to include in the kit. I don't have a Bug but I do have a couple of PE benders and have never cared for either one. I for the most part get better bends with a single edge razor blade and needle nose pliers I suppose it may be I just have not quite got a handle on how to correctly use them. In any event good job.

Mr T- Thanks buddy! You can have my dogs but I am afraid my wife won't let me get rid of them... think she loves them more than me. That's why I have this hobby... Nate- Its good to be back... it was nice break somewhat. Thanks my friend! Bones- You will love your PE bender if you use PE often like I do. Sometimes I just use plier or razor just like you do when I am in a hurry. Have been thinking about getting a very good plier for this task... AG- Bos is always happy especially when he is outside chasing squirrels and birds away... Thanks for tagging along! Carl- You can have mine... maybe we can trade... my little bug for your 20 kits if you are that desperate? You might want to get bigger one... I regret not doing this. Yes that punch holer is for leathers I brought at Joann Fabric... just don't tell the guys I shopped at ladies place.

Quick update... seats are completed. Had to apply very thin CA to keep the tissue from peeling off. Hope you like the result... Last night was a great night at the bench... resin wheels from MIG set look good except for the part where it was attached to the sprue. No worries... sanded that part flat so it will be sitting on ground nicely. This part was a huge task... my first experience using resin pieces and I am not sure if I enjoyed it. LOL Gonna fill in that gap. Thanks for looking!

Nice update Andy! Did you have a hard time getting the glue to stick, by chance? That seems to be my biggest problem with resin bits;(

I was thinking a bigger pe bender would be a good idea and now you confirmed that. I see Small Shop has a larger one for $69 and that's the one I'm looking for. Good looking resin drive train down there Andy .

Leon- Thanks buddy!
Gary- Thanks brother... glad you liked them. Thought they were nice but it took me forever to put them together. LOL
Bill- You got that right. I admire those who build 100% resin kits... I almost bought one of those kits but now I am not too sure. Had to wear mask the whole time while cutting and sanding the resin parts.
Nate- Yes, thats another reason I am not crazy about putting resin and styrene together... CA seems not to catch them right away so I had to use the CA accelerator every time. No kidding... let's hope they hold. Wait and see... thanks for stopping by!
Carl- What about 19 kits? LOL Yep, that's the set I wish I bought first time... seems I am dealing with bigger PE parts now such as tank skirts, muffler guards, etc. Always happy to help a friend. I am coming to Portland June 3-6. It has been confirmed... thanks my friend!

Andy
I hate CA glue and only use it in life threatening situations. The Accelerator is a good thing bad thing, I am certain that if you use the accelerator while the CA tube is nearby or open the fumes seem to shorten the life of the CA then one has to deal with the wet accelerator before taking the next step but it does make it set. I have never used Baking Soda for an accelerator which may be abetter way to go if you are using the liquid type. I have always suspected the Baking Soda would be a problem entering joints.
Bones
Accelerators Besides water, cyanoacrylate polymerises also in presence of alcohol and basic compounds (including weak amines). The latter can be used to produce a superglue “kicker” – a compound which triggers quick polymerisation of the glue.
Baking soda is one well-known substance with this effect. If you apply a layer of superglue to a seam and gently pour baking soda over it, the glue will cure very quickly. It makes for most effective filler for smaller jobs, and the baking soda results in a slightly rough surface which is good for sanding. The great advantage of using superglue as filler is the total absence of shrinking which plagues most solvent-based fillers on the market. There are also commercially available liquid accelerators, but as baking soda has the same effect, I personally prefer it over another harmful chemical in my workshop. Like water, the accelerator also affects the reaction through surface contact, so it will be much less effective on thick layers of glue. When filling larger recesses with superglue, it is therefore advisable to build up the volume in several thin layers rather than applying a large volume of glue at once.

Bones-Thanks for the head up! I tend to hold the pieces tight while accelerator is being applied. Baking soda is news to me... now I have to worry about my wife nagging me for leaving white powdered drugs on the bench. Luigi- LOL! Thanks for the nice comment! Carl- No hurry... deal is still on the table my friend! Am sure more sets are on its way... you will love it! AG- Thanks buddy! Robbo- Thanks mate! I have to learn how to deal with resin parts that way. Details are much nicer for sure... no argument there! Guys- Sorry about no update for a while... work and home schedules have been crazy as I work on weekends pretty much now at major events where my company promotes phone service for deaf & hard-of-hearing folks. Hope I will post an update soon!
