OK fellas,as a way of consolidating ALL of my stalled builds in one place,I'm gonna take a leaf outta the Bosses book, and throw all my meanderings in here, except my rotary builds! I have been playing around with a little wingy project, off forum,to give the ole Mojo a kick up the A$$,but there is a P51D I've been messing around with, using Gunze Mr Metal Colours....and I am well happy with the potential herein... This paint seems to polish up really well, which is Sooo good for Bare Metal Finishes!!!! Just has to be handled carefully, and sealed afterwards(Not got to that point yet.) I started polishing with normal kitchen tissue, but that was labour intensive, and not accurate,so I have fashioned a small polishing wheel to go on my 'Dremel' tool,to get in the nooks and crannies. Any and all comments welcome,Oh and questions if you feel the need!! Edit......As per my norm, these images do not really show how shiny that fuselage is!!!!

That looks fantastic CB!! I have yet to try the Mr. Metal yet! Might be selling me on them with this!! Not being to much of a dope, what scale is this? 48 or 32?

Hey T....that P51 is 1/48,but I've got one in 1/72,and maybe 5 others in 1/48,and 2 1/32s!!!!!!! .I was told these Gunze metallics weren't bad,(This was the Chrome one!),but if they all polish accordingly, looks like some awesome effects are possible once they're sealed!!! BJ...My inspiration was this one.... For your info, this build is for my long lost Tuskegee project!!

Cheers,fella....In my research,I found that when these came out of the factory, the wings had been painted!!! It was the ground crews that polished them all up,where possible.Control surfaces were fabric anyway,I think,so they would be a dull finish!

Chris,I see where you're going re the wash, but looking at the 2 pics of the real thing,I reckon I'll get away with it! Just maybe a very thin dark wash in the panel lines,eh?

Hi Chris,
The finish looks real neat. I actually picked up a few Mr Metal colours a few weeks back when buying the Mr Colour Interior Green. Can I ask, what primer did you use and did you spray it or paint it on., if sprayed, what ration did you thin it to.
Chris.

Hi Chris, that was sprayed direct onto the plastic,no primer,no real prep, which is why you can see the fine scratches etc....The fella from MDC that I got the paint from, said it could be used this way,no bother!!!?,but I would at least suggest a good quality primer, flat back, degrease, and use gloves when handling. This paint just keeps rubbing off, everytime I handle it,so I can't wait to get it sealed!!!
PS,I never thinned it either!!!!!

Hey CB, that's a mighty shiny Mustang! Looks lovely so far! The stuff you are using sounds a lot like the Model Master Metalizer range, which I am using at the moment on my Tammy 262. Beautiful finish, but oh so fragile!! I got my grubby mitts on some Metalizer sealer and it is now quite robust, though I am still treating it gently and handling it as little as possible to minimize any impact. I reckon the sooner you can seal it the better! Lookin' forward to the next installment! Cheers, Sam

Bill,Leon...Cheers fellas for the kind words Chris B(Tother one!)Hope they work out for ya fella Sam..I've not tried the MM paints, but these Gunze colours aren't too bad to get hold of over here, and they spray REAL nice!!! Andy...You just sound like a ferkin Magpie!!!! But I'll take that as a compliment, fella Eth..Re the paint coming off,it don't so much peel off,it just seems to rub off,as it's handled,so I just end up with grey/silver finger tips!!!!! Just double checking my refs,re the control surfaces, and wings, before I get too carried away!!!!

Hiya Chris, I'm just about to invest in some metallic finishes for a project I've got planned so this is interesting and well timed are the paints solvent based? Too much to hope they are water clean up eh? glad to see the Red Tailed Friend on the move again , she's looking great BTW

Sorry fellas for the late replies ....I don't BM my threads,so it's only cos Pete posted I've picked this up again.... SteveM....these clean up fine with water mate, but I would suggest a mask,as per the norm when spraying. They appear to be solvent based, because they do pong a bit,and as Eth suggested, maybe key up the primer before you lay it down, but like I said previously, the fella from MDC said you can use it direct on to the plastic. I'm gonna try a little experiment with all the Mr metallics i've got on one piece of styrene, polish it up,and see what I come up with!!

Chris looking good! Worth trying a black base coat It will give the metallic coat some depth. Dos''nt have to be gloss cos primer buffs up just as well if you give it time. Lookin forward to the result of your experiment! Tony
