Now that my Sdkfz 222 is off the bench its time to get to work on this blasted thing, so I thought I'd start a new thread.. It started as a holiday build over the 2008-09 Christmas break and was supposed to be finished in a couple of weeks. Typical of my builds I started adding more and more elements until things had gotten out of hand. While I could never hope to match this effort, or even this I have added extra surface detail as I worked on this on and off over the years. Right now though this is what greets me on the modelling bench: First things first is to fire up the soldering iron and finalise all the LED wiring and, though I am not sure when I'll get to it. Cheers, Brett T

Just a quick update after rigging up some flicker modules for the main engines.
More work on the secondary and tertiary engines to come.
Cheers,
Brett

It's been a long time between drinks on this one, and I only have a minor update. That said a lot of time went in to getting her to this stage. But I am ready to close the hull one last time, fix a few minor light leaks and get to the painting. Whew I can't imaging how many hours I have poured into this this so far. But I reckon I could have completed 4-5 armour builds. Please excuse the nasty pics. I'll get some better ones soon. Cheers, Brett

Leon, I am using a Madman Lighting kit that I sourced from Starship Modeler. You have to provide your own power supply, but everything else is provided. Mind you I needed extra FO because I went overboard on drilling holes.

Minor update as I settle into the task at hand. The basecoat of Tamiya XF-80 Royal Light Grey is down and I am now picking out random panels in various shades pf grey in order to impart a sense of scale Cheers, Brett T

Okay so now I'm getting somewhere. Just thought I'd pop in with a few progress shots: Over the last week or so I masked and painted the dorsal and ventral red stripes in Tamiya XF-9 Hull Red, which I eyeballed as a close match to thered used for the decals. The top has recieved some extra hull plate effects thanks to a couple of masks that I rotated around. I'll add some more to try to impart a sense of scale and then repeat the process on the bottom. And tonight I applied the two republic marking and sprayed the base metallic for the engines. Much work here to do there is. Regards, Brett

Dang. That looks great!
I'm guessing that you have to paint the entire hull before adding the fiber optics, and then seal up afterward (hoping to avoid any nasty glue marks)?

Thanks guys. I am getting to the point of almost enjoying this build again :-)
Dupes - quite the opposite. You have to fit all the fibre optics, build and then paint. You just have to make sure that the fibres are left long and trimmed at the end.
After finishing all the FO on this build, I found out that fishing line works well if you can't find a cheap source of fibre optic cable.
Cheers, Brett
