The Box. There only 2 normal and 1 very little sprues in it. But that's fine with me. I just wanted to restart building, getting the feel of building again after a long stop, and I wanted the big hull and deck for playing with my new airbrush. When I tried dryfitting the deck onto the hull, it showed that the hull was not wide enough. Alsough you could move in and out the sides to much. So a simple solution to put some extra strenght and width in it. After that, I looked up on the www some pics of powerboats. Most of them have a flat hull, no bumps in it. Like these boats jump out of the water frequently, the extra bumps like on this kits hull, would make it lose speed falling back in the water. So it is "PUTTY-time". This should be dry by now, so I can play around with sanding paper. But as mentioned before, I wanted to go play around with my airbrush. So I bought a Silhouette Cameo plotter to cut out my designs. Then it was time to learn the plotters software. I first scanned the deck so it could be imported in the software. After that I made some flames and placed them in the software on the deck, to have a visual. So, that's how far the project is for now. Next to do: - sanding the hull and prepare it for primer - sanding the deck and prepare it for primer - cutting the flames-stencils with the plotter and much more. So, this is my introduction here, hope to be a positive element here and to learn from others on this board (which has a good reputation).

Now this will be a cool looking build! The plotter looks like the perfect solution...once you figure out how to make it work!

Now this will be a cool looking build! The plotter looks like the perfect solution...once you figure out how to make it work! That's quite ok to work with it. The skull I scanned, traced in the software and then cut with the plotter on thin plastic sheets. This was a test to see how small I could cut. The full skull is about the size of an A4. The small lines at the bottom are about 0.5 mm thick. So, depending on the material you're cutting in, you can put quite some detail in it. (Please forgive if my English is not perfect. I would be happy if someone corrected me if I make BIG mistakes in writing and grammatics. That way, I learn something extra.)

This is off-topic..... but I want to do more airbrushing and as I am no "artist" in designing, I need to use some tricks. Therefore I use a scanner, a cutting plotter and a Wacom Intuos 5 touch tablet, to create my designs and get them onto stencils for airbrushing. Here are 3 pics from the sidewall of my sprayboot, naked and later airbrushed (not yet finished). In detail it looks even better.

A little update, without pics:
My wife this afternoon: Such a lovely weather. It is time you start doing something in the garden. Me: Okay. So I installed myself at the garden table with some parts of the powerboat, putty and sanding paper. She comes out after a half an hour and starts shouting at me. I will never understand women!

OK, today I cutted the masking foil with the plotter. This was a test-cut, just to make sure everything was ok qua settings in te plotter. I was very pleasantly surprised wih the result. Now, I can go to the cellar and do some further sanding on the hull.

Just finished playing around with a bit of paint. Hmmm..... I think I have more paint on myself, then on the boat this time. Damn! I did it before: using paint from a spraycan, getting it out of the can and then use it in the airbrush. It felt that anything that could go wrong did...... But, there is some paint that arrived on the deck. I'll try to make some pics tomorrow. I didn't wan't to mess up my digital camera with some fresh paint.

We've all been there...but sounds like you got enough of the paint transferred to the actual boat to make it worthwhile!

After sanding, and sanding, and sanding the hull....... I decided to get some variation and use the airbrush. But I learned something from all that sanding: Revell putty is definatly not so hard as Milliput. I know because I did one side off the hull with Revell and the other with Milliput. Ok, started with a base color for the engine compartment. And a first layer op Poisson green on the deck..... It aint perfect, but now I'm gonna caress it with grid 2000 sasnding paper. Yes, I managed to do it, Bill!

Today I did some sanding, some sanding, and finally....... some sanding. The hull is now nearly as smooth as my wives a$$.I just filled another few small holes that are drying now. After that, I did some more sanding........ grid 2000. Followed with some poison green thru the airbrush. So for now, the deck is ready to get some clear coat layers. And finally, a teaser of the beginning with some colors in the engine compartment. There are some spots that will need a retouch.

It isn't sharp enough yet in my opinion. Next time, I'll put a ruler next to it, to show the dimensions.

I want some input from the paint-specialists here.
How would I do it?
option 1: Giving the green a layer of varnish, spraying the flames on it, then severall layer of varnish to polish.
or option 2: Giving the green severall layers of varnish, polish it and then airbrushing the flames?
