Nearing the end Bro. Make sure you lock it up tonight so the Wee Workers Paint Team doesn't get to it first .

Thanks Fellas! Jeff, im pretty sure i can see Officer Puss-N-Boots sittin in his Honda Prius Squad car across tha street right now! Gotta watch my back with this one. Ok guys, This is my first attempt at Modulation. I not a big fan of it but i feel the need to give it a shot and do my own thing with it and see what turns out. There are 6 different colors with the set but only used 4 of em. Heres what i got. Note that its darker in person than in the pics...not sure why. Like i said the colors are much darker in person and are stark in contrast to. Im gonna spray a highly thinned coat of Tamiya Panzer Grey to ty things together a bit. Tell me what you guys think....ALL comments and suggestions are welcome. Cheers, Gary

Nice work fella that looks awesome CM is a bit of a love hate thing im a fan so it looks good to me once the filters get added it will all blend fine how do you rate the AK sets? keep up the hard work Mr Gary Dan B Thanks Dan, i appreciate it. Heres my initial opinion havin only used this first time. All four colors would not spray straight out of the bottle on low pressure but not alot better on high either...too splattery. I thinned with the AK thinner and it got somewhat better but not as good as i thought they should and the needle clogged from time to time. At this point (on the initial Dark and Base coats) im not satisfied, in fact disappointed. So on the next coat (highlight) i decided to try 91% Iso Alcohol to thin and BAM....there was the answer. I added Alcohol in aprox. 70/30 paint to alcohol on about 15psi. spraying pressure and finished it out and im happy with the results. Dont waste your money on their thinner as it smells just like alcohol but doesnt perform even close to the 91% i used. So far, after trial and error and experimentation....i reckon the paints are pretty good. It dried very nicely and has a pretty smooth finish and didnt affect small details. Having said all that, no way am i ever giving up my Tamiya unless they quit making it or our screwy government says we cant ship it here anymore. Would i buy more AK AB paints? Probably, for Modern dessert armor and the like. I do love their washes and streaking products!!! OUCH....typers cramp!!! Cheers, Gary

Looks fantastic Gary. As mentioned, the filters will blend and tone down the CM. One thing to keep in mind is that this set was one of the first CM sets from AK and in my opinion not as good as the sets from the past year. With the older sets i never use the darkest two colors as these always gave poor results and just headaches. The DAK, Late War colors and weathering color sets are all perfect. The thinning and AB pressure plays a big role as you just found out, and is normal for any manufact. paints as they are all a bit different. The AK paints are a true acrylic and so are different from LC or Tamiya which is a laquer. I think your off to a great start with this so far and your weathering skills will bring this bad boy to life.
I will be building one of my PZIV kits to use the new AK paint set on, or the Marder II.

Right on Dicky, to each his own. I loves my Tamiya and i reckon i do like the LC better than the AK after i practiced with it not long ago. But like i said, once i put that 91% alcohol in it, it was all good from there. Yup tha speed took my hair too....and a couple teeth.

All right all you ex speed freaks settle down. Way to adjust on the fly Gary, I knew you would figure it out. The final mist coat really helped it out. Looks great Mr. B.

Better or no? Gary Now the bright and dark tones are connected, the misting was a logic step to do. What a difference this is ! Sometimes people forget to lay down a transparent mist over their contrasting tones, you didn't and it looks soooooo gooooooooooooood !

gary what you did looks like what i do with my painting. well for the most part anyway. wasnt sure what you meant by color modulation but the end result looks familiar as well as the sbs to get to that point.

Hey Rob, thanks man! Did they reformulate the Paint er somthin? I had heard that it was re bottled Vallejo...any truth to that? Gary I could be wrong but yes I think that set was still made by Vallejo at the time. For some reason the two darker colors in the early sets were too think and you couldn't AB them too good. As for clogging, it does happen with these paints, similar to some Vallejo paints. I usually fill my small AB cup half full and when empty i will blow some thinner through the AB, then fill again. Right now with the humidity I am working a bit at a time allowing for drying, then AB a bit more until it spatters again.Slow but i am able to get some primer and paint on the KV and Thor models. Takes a few hours for one model atm but at least I got the paint on them...lol

G-Man,for what it's worth,if in fact they are Vallejo clones, I have been using " Expo White Board Cleaner" to thin my Vallejo stuff with. Both for brushing and in my AB. It's cheap and works really well. I can paint a whole set of road wheels or a complete hull with no clogging Try it you might like it ?

What is the base ingredient of the Expo White Board Cleaner? Gary I'm not really sure as it does not say on the bottle. I think if I remember right I looked up the MSDS on and found out that way. I noticed it some of the same ingredients as the paint tried it and voila it worked I love when that happens.

Ah, thanks Ken. Couldn't remember if the PG set was the second or third they released. I know the first two were not that great.
