KV-II Big Turret Another very nice KV kit from Trumpeter. Although I am very tempted to totally blow this one apart I am just going to add lots of battle damage.
The kit ad accessories:
Trumpeter #00311 E.T. model PE tool bins and screening Jordi Rubio KV-II 1940 turned metal barrel scratchbuilt items
I'll be using lots of photo references and to guide me in building this model. I will incorporate a little from each ref pic to come up with my own wreck. I may also add some Fruil or other indi tracks at a later time. To give an idea of what I have planned, I will be using a bit from each of these two ref pics. For Discussion Only Pics to follow

I've started on the KV-II but not much to show other than the lower hull that was already glued up. Am debating how much PE to use on this one, and what material to use for possible new fenders.

Nothing like that huge gun turret to invite a wreck! Will be fun watching this one come together.

Thanks T and Bill. Yeah the KV II is gonna be a fun one. The two ref pics above are just a couple from hundreds of awesome pics of wrecked KV II tanks, just too bad I will never be able to build that many...lol. But I can see I will be getting a couple more of these beasts.....they go together quick and most of all,fun to paint and weather.

Nice touch with the handles Rob. I still get a chuckle out of the 'quick fried tower' translation that was on the box sides for these early Trumpy kits.

Looking good! Bill, All that is left to do are the fenders and some remaining parts as well as the PE boxes and screens.
It shouldn't have any screens. Rob, have you seen this site (in Russian)? mechcorps.rkka.ru/files/kv2/kv2.htm

Andrey, yes I have that website bookmarked and saved many of those pics. We also have this website in the MSC ref library. That;s were all my ideas and inspiration are coming from. As for the screens, these are the ones on the rear deck. mechcorps.rkka.ru/files/kv2/images/kv-2_052.jpgTowards the top of the page you can see a shot from high above the rear showing the screening on both sides of the hatch. These are what I meant by the screening.

I have been looking around for the mysterious MSC ref library without a lot of success, I did find "Armor related ref. pics and links" but one needs a password to access and there is no explanation as to where this password comes from but I don't have it if that is the place you were referring too.

Thanks fellas for checking in on the KV-II. Been a fun ride so far. Talk about a large target eh. That turret was huge.
Bones glad you could finally find the Library. I moved it to the General category so it's easier to find now.

Bones Bones, I know users have different ways of accessing the forums, but the Library is a 'sub-board' under the General forum, modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/board/19/general-boardThe General forum is accessible from the main page and there are many different areas there that you may (or may not) be aware of. Check it out if you get the chance!

Yes I was aware of it and when I searched for the page the one I found required a password so I told Rob who got the link that took me to the Library without any password, my lament was just my hope not to loose track of the site which if I do I am sure someone can get me back there.

Thanks for checking in and the comment Tojo and Paul.
Well not much done to this one as I did spent time slapping paint on the other two models. I did prime the turret since it is finished. I started the tool boxes and need to solder them, lots of tiny bits to add like the hinges and handles.

Hi Luigi, and thanks. You will like this kit, simple and easy to assemble.
I worked on the tool boxes and intake screens. One slight issue with the ET screens is that they are a bit too wide. They don't sit between the bolting on the deck both sides of the intake opening. Not sure if these will fit other KV tanks tho. I have just the handle for the tool boxes left to remove, clean and bent before soldering to the boxes. Then some final kit parts to add before she is ready for primer.

Rob
Great move on the screens to handle the size thing, I do that and dismiss it to artistic license because some things are not worth fighting. Like the tool boxes. I did some of those and they are not as easy as the look with the hinges taking a little finesse. Looking very good.
