folks most of you know my big obsession. to that end i started a forum several years ago dedicated to all things related to the pearl harbor attack. recently i decided to move the forum to the same group that supports this forum. i really like the way this system is set up. so with that being said here is the meat of the matter. the current format has been active since march with no one, not even those who had joined the previous format, joining.....well i guess one did but you get the point. i am curious if the board is unappealing........boring........or just does not spark any interest. i can do much of the behind the scenes stuff.(making the categories and such, you know the simple stuff) i am however not very good with the sidebar stuff nor the banner stuff. i guess what i am trying to do is get some pointers as to what i would need to do to gather interest and get this fledgling board off the ground. here is the forum. pearlharbormodels.freeforums.net/here is the old forum. z8.invisionfree.com/Pearl_Harbor_Models/index.php?act=idxas you can see the original got some interest but then faded away. so give me some pointers folks. joe

I think it's a neat idea joe, and definitely one I know you've been passionate about for some time. The key to keeping a forum alive and functioning is always the members that belong and participate, if you can recruit individuals with a similar passion and cultivate that type of interaction, the forum will flourish on its own. Another key is to have engaging content especially since the forum is devoted to a specific event. To the extent possible, having information and compelling content (whether posts, reference materials, links, etc.) specific to the forum's purpose will also draw people in via the search engines and other places. You may need to spend some time/effort (along with some other like-minded people who share your passion) to build it up to the point where it can stand on its own. Forums take a lot of work to run and manage and the more engaging you can make it, the more likely it will be to attract and hold members over the long term.

Joe,
Great job on keeping the site going! Thoughtful living tribute to an incredible subject. I too have been drawn back from time to time if for nothing else pouring through old photos and reading some stories. The Arizona sits atop the pile of first loves. I have a pending sign up on the site and will share from time to time if and when I can.

t thanks. my big thing is i want to do something that will keep that memory alive. on another site it was recommended to do a special interest group. thinking if the model club site looks good i may shut down the other two ph sites and then open a sig site through the same group that i did the model club site. i like that it has both the text pages and the forum aspect.

chris you snuck in. i know the moment my passion started. i was in high school and the teacher passed out the message that signalled that the attack was on. from that moment on well...........it is well known what happened after that.
going to explore the sig angle though. thinking it may just fit the bill for everything i am looking to do.

That works too! I like the site with the straight to the point forum! Not too much where things get bogged down and not so little as to say "what's the point? Nice club too! You need to have an empty chair for MSC! LOL!! You will need to keep us informed as to what you final answer is on the site! Would love to have one place for all eventually! Well done!

I think that's the perfect way to approach this Joe, a SIG strikes just the right balance and will allow you to collect and organize information in a way that helps educate, provide reference resources, and attract like-minded individuals.

t as with most online stuff for clubs, all will be welcome. i will make sure i note that somewhere though.
although i like the idea of strait to the point i do like the idea that the newest has so much extra i can add to it.
bill thanks. i do hope that it will work. i believe i will be able to gather much much more to add it there.

now for those following along. ucoz is a bit quirky and when i tried to set up a test account i was less than impressed with what i had to do and the information needed. so.................... 2nd attempt. pearlharborsig.webs.com/still a bit of a long signup but less intrusive. those things you dont wish to share you dont have to. joe
