I try to check the Birthdays every day. I have noticed that there are a lot of people who have joined the site but never posted anything. I guess I just never realized how many there actually were. It's sad really.

Pretty much a norm just about anywhere really. But the "actually user" ratio is much higher here than on a number of stomping grounds and it does keep rising. Due to the friendly atmosphere, builds and family comradely There is always a level of lurkers that just hang out and never post for whatever reason and the one shot wonders who googled something but needed to join to see stuff. Sad maybe...for them, as they miss out on a lit of fun!  |

As a general rule, forums follow a 10/1 ratio of lurkers to posters depending on the mix and activity level of the different users. Not an uncommon thing at all for a variety of reasons, some people prefer to observe only, others to engage, and some in between. Other forums have a much higher lurk-to-post ratio depending. As T points out though, we have a very healthy posting volume here by our members so don't think of it as a bad thing necessarily, a lot of 'guest' traffic also moves through the forums here on a daily basis where people stop in who aren't registered at all and get a chance to view and see what's happening.  |

Jeff,you cannot have failed to notice that we have our very own Natalis Veneficus(Leon),who has been officially sanctioned by the Staff here at MSC to initialise the Birthday thread.It appears that he only grants these wishes to members who HAVE actually posted here  With regard to the number of people registered here,to actual users,like Bill and T have said,I think we have a very favourable strike rate,compared to a lot of Forums out there at the moment. LONG MAY IT CONTINUE,eh? |

I lurk AND post AND have a birthday....I have all bases covered! We noticed you post  12k is something to reach,  BTW I lurk (less than I would like), post (even worse ratio than lurking), and have only one birthday (but I think that's more common)... |

I remember researching that fact myself after one of the monthly contest votes where we "only" got ~150 people participating (which seemed REALLY low at the time, considering that there are approximately 1,000 members). If you look at the number of people who are "active" - in this example, let's say that's at least 10 posts in your lifetime - then we have less than 300 members, meaning that 50% actually vote! Which is right about in line with presidential election turnout (here in the States, anyway). Not too shabby, it turns out! |
