Feels like the poor G-4 has been in hiding as I've been bringing the Revell G-6 through its buildup. But I finally got around to slathering some putty on last night. You can see it in red along the fuselage spine and wing leading edges. I way overdid it because I was too lazy to do the tape fencing, and because it'll account for any shrinkage so hopefully I'll only be sanding the one time. Sanding tonight, hopefully moving on to paint sometime early next week.

Need to glue down the clear bits and mask off the cockpit, then it's time for primer!

Can't wait to see it primed next... looks pretty big about 10 or 12 inches long?

Maybe a bit shorter. Wingspan of a 1/32 109 is right around 11" though.
I guess big is relative! The thing is a shrimp beside by 1/32 Fiat G.55, much less my Jug!

Primed with Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black. Next up...quick polish with some micromesh, then on to the white wingtips, fuselage band and spinner.

Loving it... don't have black primer from Mr Surface but its on my shopping list. That would make things a lot easier for me to spray on Dragon kits because they are usually grey too.

So it, uh, "seams" I overlooked something... Puttied, sanded, reshot the primer, then moved on to the Gunze C69 Offwhite on the spinner, wingtips and fuselage band. Tonight or tomorrow I'll be masking off the white and moving on the RLM 76.

Last night I had this great interlude where a friggin' wasp decided to come hang out in my bench fluorescent light. So I got up and pulled the plug from the wall. This somehow tripped the GCFI to all the garage outlets! Guess where the master outlet with the reset button is? That's right, BEHIND OUR FREEZER! After much swearing and a good half hour of futzing about, I got power back and found that damn wasp chilling on a wall well away from the bench area and decided to say hello with a blast of wasp & hornet killer. Suffice to say, I had a bit of precious work time stolen last night, but I did manage to get the white areas masked and make a start on the RLM 76. I'm using Gunze's RLM 76, which seems both too dark and too blue, so I cut it with some white and some light gray. A few have expressed interest in this whole "black base" concept...so here's an in-progress shot of the painting. And at the end of the session. Still have to go up the sides, tail, etc before I can move on to the RLM 74 and 75.

Black undercoat appears to add extra depth to the finish, which looks very convincing. I'll give that a go on my next build.

The 76 isn't as clean as it looks! Lots of surprise dusting (Tamiya-like levels...unexpected from Gunze) but it's easily knocked down with fine grit micromesh. Got the main RLM 74 down last night. RLM 75 next, then the mottling work. THEN the Italian overpainting.

Okay, I got my RLMs mixed up! RLM 75 went down...now on to RLM 74 Graugrun. I wasn't happy at all with the Gunze rendition - it was so tonally similar to the RLM 75 that I had trouble seeing the demarkation. I ended up using a Tamiya mix of Dark Gray, NATO Black and Black Green. The overpaint in Italian camo colors happens tonight!

Holy smokes!!! Dig the motting. Jeez, I am not sure if I spelled it correctly. LOL Bet you found it easier to do it at larger scale?
