G, Nice work Buddy. If I could make one comment though, it would be this. Even with all your research, I think you got the sand rail wrong. Everyone knows, THIS is what a Sand Rail looks like................................ Living in Nevada, I would think you would know this

Um thanks for all the ...would you look at that.....sandrails and showgirls. I truly am distracted by the notion.
Thanks gents, now the fun begins. She's in primer as of this evening. Should have time to paint this weekend, looking like rain so the humidity might be up just a bit making for a good time.

Sorry that you gents find the picture so distracting, is this one better?
Will be good to see it in paint G. I'm not trying to be a wise arse here, but how often does it rain in Nevada?

Richard You remind me of the old saw that you cannot polish a tu...., ahem, piece of fecal matter, but you can roll it in glitter.
ima, While I have a special connection to Mother Deuce, I prefer the previous photo.
Annual rainfall is just over 4 inches a year. That usually happens all at once two or three days during July/August with a smattering in January.

Well we are smack dab in the Mojave desert. Funny thing was my second winter here it snowed over 6 inches by my place. I'm in the extreme south end of the valley in the city of Henderson. My house is about 900 feet above the valley floor which puts it right at 3000 ft above sea level. Out west here that's just at the snow line regardless of climate.

G-man
4 inches per year sounds like the end of growth must be in sight to some. We get 52 inches a year and some of it can come in any month of the year. I live at somewhere between 25 and 75 feet in elevation and have had several years with snowfalls of 3 to 6 inches. Our average high is 62F high and 42F low which makes it a very nice green un-desert type place to live.
I have been looking at rails on M3 Grants in a number of places and have found many with the rail like yours some like mine and some made out of rod instead of bar stock. There are short ones some that hang low and even many Sherman’s with the rail also indicating that combined there was no set one way to add them and that they were most likely a field expediency in North Africa as the hooded camouflage covers became available.
I have to agree with you on the photo choice also.

She's in her basecoat of red brown and I finished just before a storm brewed up. It rained like hell for a good 15 minutes now we have flash flood warnings.
I mixed the desert pink from Starmers Tamiya mixes and it looks great. It's 50/50 Flat White and Flat Flesh with a dab of Flat Earth. I mixed the green from JGSDF Green and Dark Yellow. Pics to come.
Question for all you adroit weathering types. I'm going to hairspray over the base coat, spray the desert pink. Then can I hair spray again before spraying the green or will it ferk up the pink? I should be ok with layers right?

The desert pink is on and I love the way it came out.
One major setback though. I had to replicate the sand shields from sheet as they apparently warped while drying in the desert sun last week. Oh well, they are reprimed and I'll have them in pink to morrow.

Nice camo...how did you replicate the black borders? By spraying the green over it?
Looking great!

Thank you all!
Paul it's actually not black. I used Silly Putty for a mask, then fist sprayed Tamiya Dark Green. After that I went in with JGSDF Dark Green with a touch of Dark Yellow added and faded in the pattern. I used my Badger Renegade and dialed down the AP to about 11 PSI.
Long long week ahead of me here in Sin City. Everyone's here for the "last hurrah" of summer and we are going nuts. Add to that the fact we just got a new chief of the division. Oh Joy Oh Bliss.
All the REMF's are kissin' rear and running around trying to get noticed. Oh well business as usual!

Thanks again all! Having finished the '57 Chevy I got back onto the M3. I wasn't liking the way the chipping was coming out using the hair spray method so I just hand painted them. I gave a wash of raw and burnt umber mixed and thinned way out. It really accentuated the "pink" tone. Lotsa pigment dusting coming up. G
