Hi Guys I needed a break from painting so I went back to work on the MG42. This will be on the shoulder of one of the fallschirmjagers. The resin kit part was ok, but a little warped. After looking at a few options I decided on the Tamiya part from their MG42 Machine Gunner kit. It just seemed straighter and sharper looking, but could still use some extra work. Here are the kit parts: With a dremel I carved out the barrel and opened up the cooling slots in the jacket: I added some brass rod for the barrel: Here’s the almost finished gun. Still needs a bit of work, the bipod is not glued yet. Thanks for looking, all comments, critiques and suggestions most welcome… Tom

Tom , from a fellow modelers point of view this one is beautiful ! Spectacular paint and weathering you have done . How did you strip the Tamiya and Mr. Surfacer mixture off of the plastic ? I've been able to soak Tamiya paint off a surface in 1/35th scale with a product called Simple Green but isn't Mr. Surfacer a lacquer based product and it adheres to plastic better than the Tamiya ? If you wouldn't mind could you let me know whats going to happen on the other side of the open hull and turret ? I'm looking forward to seeing those figures on this .

Hi Carl I removed the paint with Polly S “Easy Lift Off”…look if you dare… Not sure if this stuff is still available, but it feels and smells a lot like brake fluid. If you do use brake fluid, only soak the parts as long as you have to, it will start to melt some plastics. And it did remove all the Mr. Surfacer texturing I had done, something I wasn’t too happy about, had to redo it all. The backside of the parts are blanked off with 0.040 thk sheet styrene, I’ll paint it satin black at some point…not something I am looking forward to. Let me know if you have any more questions. Tom

Tom, That's some serious detail work on the MG 42. Looks so much better after the mods!
