Hi there, started a couple of months ago the build of a MIG III. My first intention was to finish this bird in a 100% bare metal (some kind of a fantasy race plane) but changed the plan and did a combi of bare metal and wood. Disclaimer; I'm not that kind of a historical correct modeller as you probably noticed. (or will notice) The status so far: Wood effect was achieved following the next steps. Masking, white Games Workshop skull white priming and pre-shading with Tamiya Dark brown. Some layers of Tamiya Desert & Dark yellow. Painting grain effect with Liquitex acrylic ink. The wooden panellines were masked and airbrushed: Finishing the tailsection now like the wings in wood. Will post an update soon. More pics can be found HERE. Bye, Marcel.

Thnx folks! Just finished the tail section. This part was masked, white primed, pre-shaded with dark brown and shaded with Desert yellow. Forgot to add Dark yellow to the mix so the tail is slightly more red/brown in comparison to the wings. The panels were masked & painted one by one using Liquitex acrylic inks. Next steps will be spraying the wheel-doors, flaps, slats and horizontal tail section. I'm a little bit "*masking tired" now so I'll continue with another non aircraft project for this moment. *Aircraft modelers respect +1. Besides building AFV's & Sci-fi I sometimes built a plane. Big respect for aircraft modelers because you've to work so neat & tidy. Bye, Marcel.

Such a cool looking aircraft! Is this a production build or did they fly them this way??

Thnx folks. It's quite fun to work on this one. As said this is not a historical correct build. But this plane was build from wood & metal and I built him without paint/primer (naked). They didn't fly this way I suppose. Some german planes did fly "naked". Flaps will be problaby bare metal or as you mentioned painted cloth but I'm not sure about them yet. Bye, Marcel.

What an excellent idea for a build. Your "metal smithing" and "wood working" are outstanding.

Saw one of those secret German Jets they found. The body was mostly wood. They thought it might have been trying to escape Ray Dar! (angel)

Hi Folks thnx! Decided to pick this shelf queen from the shelf and started to finish it. Still plane building is nerve wrecking... Brushed the tailplane bare metal and pre-shaded the ailerons. They will receive a cockpit green/mint color. Just because I love this color. =) The prop blades will be in a WWI style woodfinish. For the ailerons & elevators I used a simple pre-shade trick. Applied a brushed coat of thinned acrylic black and sanded it afterwards when dry with the following result. Guess this will be good enough for a pre-shade and less work then masking like I had to do for the rudder: Good fun anyway. Next airbrushing those stuff. Cheers, Marcel.

Voila, a layer of green coat after the black pre-shade treatment. Just a quick shot. Next will be some darkgreen (pre-shaded areas) retouching with the brush and a layer of gloss coat to seal these parts. Marcel.
