Hope I'm not too late here on this build. Great to see another WWI tank being built. The paint and weathering is looking good Paul. Been years since I built this model....and yes the tracks do suck on these Ehmar kits.

Gary- I'd say get one. You can do as much or as little(like me) as you want with the thing. I did get frustrated with a couple of things but in the end- its only a bleeding model/hobby Finish one? -you're havin a larf Tony... Rob- cheers Boss. I fancy trying a A7V at some point- maybe juxtaposed ( YES! worked that one into a post) against a Leo2A7.... Well I've gotten some more done over the weekend with this: Then I masked off the hull top and sides to minimise (i'm not good enough to say avoid)the liklihood of overspray on the track. YThese then got a couple of coats of a mix of VMA hull red and burnt umber. This was pretty dark and it wasn't always ovious whether I'd managed to gover the horrible black things. Masking was immediately removed and I only found a few bits of overspray- these will be sorted with weathering. I followed the red/umber up with a dry brushing of VA oily steel. Then I went back to the hull with spot filters of organge and buff that were stumpped to the bejaysus. I find i get a better result (or at least one I'm happier with) if I use a completely dry brush to stump . Once thats done I go back over the bits I'm not happy with with a samll flat that has had a sniff of thinners. Next stage: a build up of mud on the lower edges of things and in thre mud chutes etc. The plan for that will be filler/plaster mixed with a dark brown craft acryllic and static grass and debris from one of the TREE MENDOUS kits I got at Telford last year. EDIT: sorry for the lack of pictures! I was typing this whilst Uploading some pics to photobucket- but it didn't work for some reason. I'll have to try again later.

Folks- I have a question about this one: Because of the way in which the tracks wrap around the hull would I be right in thinking that mud is less likely to be "thrown" up on to the hull as it is on modern tanks, and that susequently mud on the hull is as result of how deep the vehicle drives into whats there? (if that makes any sense) P

(if that makes any sense) P At the speed this would travel,I think 'thrown' maybe the wrong word, but the tracks may well have mud trapped in the links, which would be dropped on the upper areas, just inside the track sweep, top of the sponsons, and then mud streaks down the sides I suspect.Have a look at John T's,or Dans....they made a pretty good fist of both of theirs!

Chris you beat me to it. From the old films i've seen these old buggys just creeped along and the dirt and mud would've just dropped off first chance it got. Tony lee

Thanks guys. First mud coat went on last night- the said mix of plaster, acryllic paint and various grades of ballast. Liberally applied to the tracks and lower surfaces. The stuff on the tracks was wiped back a bit when still wet to allow the metalic bits to show through. Planning a darker/gloss coat for wetness and then onto the pigments. Pics to follow- posting instead of working P

Doing a bang up job Paul!! Lovely effects you are working out!! Thinking you will be fine with the kit tracks. I really need to pick one of these up at some point!!! LOL..I think I have a ful resin jobbie somewhere in the cave but the plastic would probably be much more fun to play with!! Keep up the great work!

It is similar- and whilst a complete work of fiction, themovie looks like it might be based on the Mk V hull- a more elongated lozenge shape rather than the tear-drop of this one. Just given me a thought for a Paper-Panzer build there Bruce! P

Paul I built the old A7V kit about 8 years ago, when I built the mkIV male and female tanks, and the whippet. All four were comm models and I have no pics of them. The A7V has indi track links which are better than the ehmar tracks

This is a dumb question, but why do they call them male female? Guess i've never seen them side by side. That would probably make it more obvious.

Male and Female designations were simply based on the weapons fits on the original Mark 1's... Mark 1's armed with two 6 pounder guns and three 8 mm Hotchkiss machine guns were called "Male" tanks, and those with four Vickers machine guns and one Hotchkiss, were called "Female" Not to mention the Freudian field-day they represented as well...

Update time: Plaster and brown paint mix to start and then followed up when dry with a dark-brown glossy coat for a wettish look. The "modulation" is down to some iffy lighting- not the paintjob! As ever, ACW P

Looks really great Pau I was watching a documentary a couple of days ago and I found that the mud was much more than usual, due to exceptional rains in 1918.

Almost missed this... great work on mud. Like Luigi said seeing many video clips it was pretty muddy out there. Makes me want to mud wrestle with it if you are cool with that...

Moving this one along; I decided to make use of some more of my Christmas vouchers and ordered some Aber barbed-wire from Historex and I have some Fredricus Rex plants coming also. I've started on laying out some groundwork using polystyrene foam and hope to have made enough progress to post up some pics very soon. P
