Hey all, This is going to be a fairly quick build of Tamiya's Ligier JS11 F1 kit. I had to source some decals for this as the kit ones had yellowed but other than that it will be an out of the box build as I wanted this to be a practice build for the PE heavy Lotus which will come later. So far I've got a lot of the engine and transmission painted and some parts are now together. The exhausts are a mare to get located and after doing the one side I figured I'd leave the other side till tomorrow. The parts I've currently got ready with their finished paint. I was a little bit lazy as I airbrush painted some parts that have multiple paint types without masking anything off, the brake discs for example with metallic grey on the discs and aluminium on the brakes. This was done as a bit of a test bed too though and I think it worked well, the disc was left till second and the darker paint helps to shadow the brakes as long as it's kept tight and not too much paint is allowed to bleed over the aluminium. I'll get pics when these parts are all fitted. The underside of the Cossie engine : And the right way up with the head covers dry fitted for the photo. I haven't checked on which direction they need to face so don't shout at me if they are incorrect here Cheers for looking in, hopefully I'll have more tomorrow and I should be onto the bodywork pretty fast. A note on the replacement decals : I got the ones that require me to paint the white myself, so I just have the red stripe decal. I won't use that red stripe though, I'd prefer to paint that too and I may have a go at pinstriping it myself, depends on how much my hand shakes when I try it

Geez, the exhaust pipes are separate pieces? That must have been a trial. I don't blame You for waiting on the other one. Well played Bub.

Dicky - Thanks buddy, that's a very odd pair of choices for fave drivers there, a Belgian and a Frenchman I believe ? What was it about those two that you liked, the cars or the drivers themselves Dicky ? Boot's - Cheers buddy, I appreciate it Leon - Thanks bro, good to have you here Jeff - Thanks buddy, and yeah separate pieces for the zorsts and a total nightmare because they have to line up for the top of the exhausts to sit flush against the frame. There's no definitive location points, there's a lot of room for movement which doesn't help at all as it would be nice to be able to insert the first pipe knowing that it was correctly positioned. Basically the zorst fitment has ruined the whole look of the engine in my opinion as I was guessing at the best way to fit it and to be honest it wasn't correct. On that note I will say that the best way to fit the zorsts is as follows : Make the whole engine and transmission and fit them together before anything else, going against what the instructions tell you. Get the upper section of the exhaust fitted ( the Y shaped piece ) and locate the two ends into the 4 way joining piece and keep those joining pieces parallel. Then fit the 4 pipes on each side of the engine because these pipes have no set position. Fitting them first opens you up to all sorts of issues of parts not fitting flush or parallel to the frame resulting in gaps everywhere.
Having this as a test build for the Lotus carrying the same engine setup is invaluable as that's the build that I really want to get right. Prof warned me about this build and I can see why Bruce - Thanks buddy, good to have you here. Basically fellas I've had to dry brush enamel black and metallic grey over the exhausts now to cover up the filler used to get them joined up, totally ruining the painting I'd done yesterday. Everything is together and I'll be finishing this part off tomorrow with some minor paint jobs like the blue for the suspension mounts. It's nowhere near what I wanted but it'll be covered up a bit and like I say it's a test build so I won't be going to any extremes or taking too long on the painting either. Most likely this will get thrown away once I've got the Lotus done. Thanks for looking in guys and gals.

Hi Mark, nice start on her I'm really interested to see how this turns out as I never built mine. I had one of these (just sold it) and the decals were yellowed too. Standard with these 70's F1 kits I'm told I've a Tamiya 1/20 Brabham BT50 and that has yellowed decals too, that one I bought a set of Studio 27 decals for though which are beautifully white. I'll most likely sell that too soon as I'll never build it and I'm thinning the stash from "never will" to only "some day maybe" Anyhoo... Looking forward to the next update buddy

Really nice, I too like late '70s/early '80s F1 cars. I was really into F1 those days, I was a big fan of Gilles.

Prof, thanks bud and I couldn't agree more, it needs a bit of metal to get this up to date. The engine PE for the Lotus would obviously translate to this one but it's the rest of the car that suffers more. Dicky, I have to say that rooting for the underdog is something I know all about being a West Ham fan. But I'd rather that than support a team like Man U just cause they win all the time. Winning all time would get boring and its those shocks that make it all the more satisfying.. T, thanks a lot buddy, I'll do my best Steve, thanks buddy, the decals are something to take into account for anyone buying this kit, you need to add about £20 to the kit price as its a sure thing that you'll need to replace them. Its a shame I'm in the middle of saving for the house extension, otherwise I'd have asked how much you wanted for the BT50. Do you have any bikes you're selling ? Luigi, thanks bud, it was indeed a great time to be into F1, probably the era of the sport so far in my opinion. Bill, Keith, Boot's & Andy, cheers very much fellas, I've got my work cut out for me on this one, that's for sure I'm currently on hold with this build guys, I need to get some paints to be able to start the exterior and some filler too and I can't spend any dosh for a while so it'll have to wait. Hence why I started on another bike build because I have all the paints needed for that one.

Dicky - Yeah sadly I know what you mean buddy. Any footie fans worse nightmare would be what happened to Pompey, I wouldn't wish it on anyone, except maybe the ManUre Rob - thanks buddy I appreciate that... I have the same motor to do in another build so hopefully I'll get the pipes to fit a bit better

lol, yeah I agree, I actually dreaded Saturdays, particularly as a kid in a city where I only knew one other hammers fan. Good thing is, Coventry were as bad as we were and we just happened to be Cov's bogey team I still have the sickening feeling in my guts when I know we are playing. That's why winning is so much more fun though, it's not expected but that doesn't make losing any easier to bare
