Just thought this might get kind of interesting. Show us a pic from your youth and one from the present. Its sometimes amazing to see the transformation is'nt it ? at seventeen and then at 50.Just smile and wave boys, just smile and wave.

sorry for not replying to your question Andy.Firing the M-16 was well an M-16.My first year plus I humped an M-60,live fire exercises were quite fun. Then I was assigned an M-203 grenade launcher, don't recall any HE rounds going downrange though.I was lucky enough to fire a live LAW rocket. Was one of the lucky ones who got his hands on an M-249 squad automatic weapon, fairly impressive in terms of the volume of lead one could place on a target. But last and certainly not least was the weapon I was in charge of when I got to be a Track Commander, the legendary "MA DUECE",I believe I could still dis-assemble and re-assemble one blindfolded.awsome firepower and reliability. Thanks for asking Andy.

Hey Greg, thanks for sharing those pics.....VERY COOL! I have fired many assault and hunting rifles as well as hand guns, owned several for many years, but on thing i always wanted to do was to fire an M2 "Ma Duece". THAT would be one of the coolest things ever.....2nd for me would be an MG42. Maybe someday ill get luck! Cheers buddy

bbd468,I definitley concur on firing an Mg-42.When visiting the"NTC" we mounted a night vision scope on several .50's for nite surveillance.SOF magazine once had an article about sniping techniques that were used in south america namely sniping across mountain tops with a "Ma Duece" in the single shot mode.

Gary a 6' man looks about the same size as a postage stamp at 500 meters. Now triple that distance.
We got one at a measured 1193 yards across the Tahn Son Nhu airfield. Sandbagged Mother Deuce atop an outbuilding. The NVA was just waiting for the Americans to leave. The target was scoping us from atop an APC parked in the bushes.
Tighten up the T&E mechanism, screw down the damper, get light on the butterfly and kaboom. One shot and the target is down before the sound ever reaches him.

Chris , ok . That makes since , I thought maybe you had passed out from standin at attention in the uniform . When i was in basic training our Company commander , a boilers mate E6 , used to stand us at attention in the August heat until at least 10% of the company passed out .......then he felt pleased enough to march us off to another sadistic destiny .
I've got just a couple of photo's from my early yrs . They didnt take many pics back then you know .

That's me... 13 years old in the left... I was in heaven meeting US Paratrooper from 82nd Airborne at my house. He returned home just in from for the holidays to be with his family after playing a role in Invasion of Grenada. He gave me the red beret, few pins and a great book about the invasion. I still have them all... somewhere in the boxes. It pisses me off that I couldn't serve my country because of my deafness sometimes...
