Mac - I'm right there with ya! When I originally embarked on this as a Greek F-16, I discovered that 1) Greece has F-16s and 2) the Hellenic Air Force regularly engages in very aggressive mock dogfights with Turkish F-16s over the Aegean. All in all, they're probably driven far harder than any of the USAF's F-16 fleet.

Nice pit! Perhaps a soft drybrush to let the smaller parts stick out?

dupes - PM me your address and I'll get it your way. May be a few days, though. Life here is absolute crazytown at the moment. Cool! Will send shortly. Man, that cockpit looks great...and the Aires wheelbay set is frickin' riDICulous. Wow.

Moving on to the *other* internals I need to tackle... The intake was painted Gunze C69 Offwhite and then glued. Squadron white putty has been slathered into the seams and will be sanded off, hopefully doing the trick for further painting. There's also a NASTY seam in the exhaust channel. WTF, Academy? Instead of doing these as halves, why not as a series of rings instead? It'd to a much better job hiding things.

I don't know exactly how but i saw a guy fix these problems with liquid latex? The stuf you can get at a DIY. Het pours it in and it fils the seam and makes it white at once too. Maybe there is something to find about this on the www? I tried searching myself but i couldn't find something with a how-to. This is how the Dutch guy did it! www.modelbrouwers.nl/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=216&t=41547&start=20

Tape up the backside, fill it with white latex paint and then drain it. The stuff is pretty thick so it should do a nice job producing a very smooth surface. I actually just picked up a test pot of "Woodlawn Bedroom White" at Lowe's about an hour ago. They have these wonderful tiny pots (10 or so ounces?) for testing out different paints before you go whole hog on a gallon or something. I hate them when the wife gets in a redecorating mood, but they're perfect for this case.

Painted the intake last night. Here's how. 1) Buy white house paint. Lowes sells small sample pots that are perfect. I chose a slight off-white. 2) Make sure seams have been filled and sanded reasonably well. Use tape to block the back of the intake. 3) Pour paint into intake and fill it all the way to the top. You'll want to use a smaller container for control. 4) Up end intake and pour out paint. 5) Viola! Remove tape and place intake where it can drain.

That actually looks REALLY good. No issues with adhesion? Did it help fill the seams at all?

No difficulties whatsoever until I dropped it this morning and the impact made the paint crack down the length of one side. Grr. Time to explore FOD options.
But I'll certainly try this again.

Nice result, sorry to hear of the crack. As heico was saying, can a second run settle it?

Second run came out very lumpy. Just awful. Guess I'll be doing an FOD cover for sure now.

Needed primer first, then use a hair dryer to harden up the paint.

Bugger! That sux dude! Gotta say though, I am a pretty big fan of this method. I have used it on an F/A-18A and and E in 1/48, and it came out peachy. I however used Model Master Enamel Gloss White, and had no trouble at all. Goes on a bit thinner than the latex stuff, even pouring it into the intake straight from the jar, however extra coats were not a problem. One of the things I love about this method (which I did on the "A") is that if you have a straight demarcation between the camo colour and the intake white, you can fill up the intake to the demarcation point and then drain it, leaving you with a perfectly straight edge. Sweet! You do have to make sure you have the intake level, and you need a steady hand when pouring (also making sure you have painted the intake camo colour first), but it works a treat. The other thing to keep in mind is that this probably only works for 1/72 and 1/48 intakes, as 1/32 is probably a greater volume than a bottle of MM paint! Anyhoo, sorry for the thread hijack, hope you find a good solution, Doogs. Intake cover may be the go! Cheers, Sam

Well, a nice switchover to some good fortune for a change! Came back to the intake tonight, and the paint had smoothed out somewhat. It's still a bit dodgy toward the back of the intake, but that part will be all but invisible in the finished thing, and the forward portion looks rather decent. Whew!
