Hi all As many of you will know im a great fan of William Marshal 1147-1219 , if you don't know who he is google him, and after my last build of him ive been hankering to do a bust, so in between doing Boudicca I started on the head. The basic shape of the head is sculpy putty firm, and the detail has been added with Milliput Im going for an action pose for this with his left arm holding a shield up to defend himself and his right arm swung back ready to strike with an axe. well that's the plan anyway Paul

made a start on the traditional coned helmet, this is all made from milliput and will have a nose guard, possibly with some sort of decoration plenty to do on this rivet wise, so an order from archer transfers is on the way Paul

cheers guys, I managed to get a shed load done over the weekend, I had a delivery of sculpey, turned out I had ordered the pink, doll, finish, so the rest of Billy will be pink So first of all I added some more to the helmet, it didn't quite sit right on the head so I added a rim to the bottom and then the nose guard and some decoration Then had a crack at the torso, I first made the basic shape, it doesn't have to be spot on, The right shoulder has been raised to allow for the arm position, I then positioned the head to make sure that it looks ok The next step is to add the creases on the surcoat, I finished the front part first and then fired it before doing the back, and also added rough make ups of the arms And the final bit for the weekend was to start the coif, this was shaped and then the chainmail detail started So loads done and plenty to do, but im quite happy with this so far Paul

As well, you should be! Awesome to watch you work. How do you add layers to the build? I'm interested in the technique.

Always fun to watch these literally come to life in your hands Paul! This one's no exception and the Pink just adds a little bit of variety to the mix. As for Dicky calling you Abnormal...well, he did recently cross the 15k post mark so that should tell you something all by itself.

Cheers Bruce, once the basic shape has hardened I then add small pieces of sculpey in rolls to form the creases, and blend them in. I can work out roughly where the creases should go by looking in the mirror, my missis thinks im weird anyway so shes used to me looking in the mirror posing Cheers jackwagon, I do do it in layers but I try to get the basic shape right first, this makes it easier to get the creases where they should be. but yr right I am abnormal, but hey could be im the only normal one and everyone else is weird many thanks Bill, as for the 15000 posts, yeah it tells me he has help , or he needs it Cheers Luigi always a pleasure to have you here Andy told ya before ill make you a jaw support, cheers bud So carrying on with Billy, I reached the tedious part, doing the chainmail, when the coif was finished I started on the hood part, I also added some more sculpey to the right arm and started the chainmail on that. When that was complete I added some straps around the edge of the hood part, this was used to tie the chin guard up, ive left this down, mainly just to show off the face thanks for looking guys, ive just started the second horse for Boudicca so ill post some pics shortly Paul

You've really gotten the art of the chain mail links down Paul. Nice progress! Dicky definitely needs help, there's only so much CB can do for him you know.

Many thanks jackwagon, glad your keeping me right Luigi who said it doesn't drive me nuts Bill, Dogfish, Leon and Gary, thanks for the comments guys Sorry I havnt posted for a while, been busy with work, organising a new house move, work, having Montezumas revenge, and work , however ive managed to get a bit more done today. The belt is complete and ive done the Leopard heraldic device on his Gambeson. Ive added this as a lot of them were quilted on so would have had a bit of bulk. I also did the chainmail on the other arm. Im thinking of either an Axe or a sword in the right hand, not sure which yet, and ill do a kite shield in the other all for now. thanks for looking and taking the time to comment Paul

Nice job on the heraldry Paul, the sword/axe plus shield will really provide some additional detail to the pose...tough choice though between them...but if I had to choose, I'd go for the axe, just seems more fitting with the aggressive pose IMHO.
