Otherwise known as a "Corporate Alliance Droid" from Episode III of Star Wars. See? Now this is how I get myself into trouble with shelf queens. Once or twice a month, my IPMS chapter has build night down in my basement...4-5 hours of pure unadulterated modeling bliss with 4-10 other like minded individuals. Not wanting to banish myself to the spray booth while the fellas are over, I have to actually build something. Sometimes you run out of stuff that needs building (versus painting, weathering, etc.) so you "have to" crack into a new kit. See where this is going? So last night after finishing up all of the pre-paint bits on my 1/72 F/A-18C, I decided to go this route. Should be a quick build (it was) and I can get right onto paint, weathering, and the display case. The kit - done by AMT back in 2005 right around the time Ep 3 was released. Scale - approximately 1/32 (to go along with the Droid Tank kit) but nothing is listed on the box. Speaking of the box: And the few sub-assemblies needed to move on to paint: 99 cent Wal-Mart rattlecan black primer is drying as we speak...more pics when I get them!

Gag - I've got BUCKETLOADS of Sci-Fi stuff...just need to get it all built! I promise you'll see plenty in the near future. Andy - a scratched putty Chewbacca? That totally goes against my 50-kits-in-2014 strategy.

Tonight's progress - first the black primer pic: Then after a marathon basecoat session (that compressor was smokin'!). Really the only issue with the black primer is that it takes a pretty hefty quantity of paint - especially with lighter colors - to cover it. So much of the interior is exposed on this thing, though, that I didn't have a choice. Didn't want a bunch of unpainted plastic showing through.

That black primer actually worked well in your favor on this one. It really makes that base coat come alive with the contrast between the green and the blacked out openings. Nice!

Leon - thanks man! More random greens going on shortly.
Afvfan - yeah, I'm a big fan of the black primer (except for the previously discussed caveat). Completely prevents having to do a tedious panel line shade...and I can prime it in about three minutes total!

The more I think about it, I wonder what color that's "supposed to" represent? As far as I know, Vallejo paints are made to match existing modeling-related colors.
Any guesses?

Fed up? No way! If I could that's all I'd build. Just not enough kits in the world to keep me occupied for long, though.

Added some camo with another eyeballed Vallejo Model Air color off the shelf. Diluted it a bit to be sure there'd be no overspray when I freehanded the pattern. I like it, but it wasn't exactly what I had in mind - was thinking more German WWII squiggle-pattern. The current status: Next up is spraying the basecoat on the three sets of tracks!

Bill - "made" myself watch that scene a few times before heading down to spray. Imagination by immersion?

Tracks have been painted. Giving the AK Interactive "Tracks and Wheels" paint set a try. This is the darker of the two base colors provided. As usual, their paint dries in the airbrush very quickly (even with 33% thinner) and separates pretty fast. Wouldn't work at all for camo, but as a basing agent it does the job. Nothing is permanently attached in this pic - just blu-tacked into place (so don't worry about the misalignment of those guns!). Tomorrow will be some touchups, detail painting, and most likely the start of weathering. Oh, and fixing the antenna I snapped off, too.
