So I stole this kit from a dude at a show last year...not really, but getting it for $20 felt like a steal. Anyway, I feel like I'm leaning more toward 1/32 now but I thought I'd whip this one together to dust my sea legs off before tackling a big project. The first post here is going to be a little modest. I'm just getting started on assembling up as much as possible before beginning the paint sessions. Tomorrow night I should be able to start laying down some paint. Question though. The instructions call out RLM 02 but a lot of 110 builds I see are 66. Any ideas or suggestions?

Always liked German bombers... count me in! I know nothing about paint for wingy but am sure somebody will.
Nice avatar by the way...

Haha...glad you like the new avatar. Had to go with something a little more forum friendly...I was going to change it to something more "me" after everyone got the "joke," but now I think it has some symbolism attached to it...because after all, aren't we all just a bunch of old folks sharing our hobby together...lol.

Looks like a good project Jimmy, will be following along with interest. Andy, this one's a fighter, not a bomber!

NIce project. Sorry, I've always confused about the use of 02 and 66 (early/late? fighter/bomber?...who knows)

I've been working on the pit between doing some paint work on a 32nd 109 and getting the engine nacelles sorted out. Wow those things don't line up at all...lots of outty work and shaping. I opted for 02 but the following pics are bad so it looks much darker than it is. I just need to weather the awful PE harnesses and I think I'll close this up. I apologize. The phone camera isn't going to cut it, so I'm going to have to run down our digital camera...even though it isn't much better :/

Jimmy this is really looking hot man. While my favorite avatar of yours has been the "Remove Before Flight" girls, I like this one too. This was one of the choices on the decal sheet I used for my 109 and will likely be the one I do when I do another 109. And Jimmy, I hope you don't mind me addressing a couple of your fans... Edit--hope ya didn't read this yet my man...Andy that's from too much time plying in the dirt with your tanks making BRAP noises. You need to fly up into the clear crisp air every now and them. If Bill can do it anyone can. The Bf is Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (Bavarian aircraft works) a company Willie joined as chief designer. They starting designating his aircraft with the Me after the Bf-163, a light plane not to be confused with the later Me-163, the fire farting rocket plane Dario, it's more of an early/late thing than fighter/bomber thing.

Haha. I liked the old avatar too, but it didn't seem appropriate I've been a fan of topical Luftwaffe birds for years and all the builds I've seem lately have me wanting to do one...hence the avatar.

Some top notch office work Jimmy! Just as a heads up you may have a problem with closing up the nose guns, have read that in some reviews and a buddy of mine had the same problem building his. To be honest not exactly what causes the problem all I've been told is that it just doesn't fit right. Pete

Thanks everyone.
Freak, yup I know. I already glued the two halves together. After test fitting them to the fuselage front it appears the top half (the one intended to be open) is too short. Early assessment seems that some shinning with plasticard will be all I need to do. It can't be any more work than what the engine nacelles are giving me...we will see

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I managed to get the fuselage closed up tonight. I had dental surgery today so I'm a little high on Vicodin...it will be interesting to see if things went as smoothly as I think they did. Lol

Been slogging away at this one. The past couple nights have been filling, shimming, sanding, repeat to get the nose and nacelles on. Like I was warned, the top half of the nose is a bit short...this is what I was dealing with: I just sanded it flush and glued some styrene sheet to the nose and the fuselage so I could glue those together: Pretty big step on both nacelles...used Bondo to level them out and smoothed over: The bottom joins had to be shimmed..there cavernous gaps...you can also see where I had to fill seams on the control surface joins: Wings joined. The tops went well...the bottom is going to need some work: This is where I sit. Still have some cleanup to do, but all is looking good.

Man, you are one BRAVE man! Adding machine gun barrels before excessive putting and sanding... they would have been knocked off or bent if I did the same thing. LOL
Looking great... smooth!

Hahaha, panzer. It's like you're inside my brain. Those things are stressing me out. I just really didn't see any other way to deal with them that would be practical. I'm actually going to cover them with something to protect them from here on out. I've had to be really careful so far.

It's been a nice bit of work. I don't mind not having shake-n-bake kits all the time. It keeps you honest. Not too long ago I would have shelved this kit, but I've gotten good at not letting them beat me.

Well this build just ground to a halt. Was making good progress on getting the main body finished. I went to install the ailerons to find they are both missing from the kit. Like I said, I bought this kit at a show. It was opened, but appeared all together, but I firmly believe the kit was poached. Both sprue attachments for each piece look cleanly cut. I searched the box high and low and they aren't there. I'll try Eduard for a replacement but if they are going to want me to pay shipping and all for one sprue I just don't think I'll be doing it. I feel violated right now.

Having built a few Eduard kits I am surprised by the poor fit. But it obviously makes no never mind to you.

Hang with it Jimmy. The effort you are throwing at this one is going to pay off when the paint hits it. Making very good progress despite the challenges with it.

I boxed it, but I think I'm going to keep going with it and just hope I hear from Eduard about replacements soon. At the very least I can go to priming without the missing parts...I tried to start another kit and was just too bummed about this one...

I say build it as a wreck. Scratchbuild the control surface frames...
