Hello my friends! As I was in a inspiration crise with the base for the husssar, I decided to attack another figurine of my grey list. So, here it another Ek Castings figurine, a Norman Knight, XIth Century, paint with the same Vallejo acrylics, a wet palette, Vallejo and Leonardo da Vinci brushes (well, a marathon of 9 hours last night, I will never do again this exercise). www.democratic-republicans.us/images/Norman-knight-mounted.jpgThe steps are the same: 1. Black Primer 73062 (except the mail hauberk) than I attacked the shield. 2. The Shield: The Blue for the shield and flags is a mix of Andrea Blue (70841) and Medium Blue (70963). The Yellow =Flat Yellow (70953) + Desert Yellow (70977). Drybrush with Natural Steel on rich metallic tapestry of shield. The wood of the shield is worked with different nuances and then a lot of washes and glazes Burnt Umber, Smoke, even some Natural Wood from Agama. The same with the lance wood. 3. For the mail hauberk, first I made something strange: with help of a paper metallic clip, I scratch all the hauberk.Than a wash (25 % colour+75% water) with Dark Sea Blue with very little Black in all the holes. After that I decided to follow the prescription of a Portuguese friend: Black+ Natural Steel, lights with Natural Steel, and high lights with Silver. 4. The helmet: the same manner plus some points with Metal Medium. BUt here I added another thing:some washes with red Cadmium, Orange Brown, English Uniform, Dark Sea Blue, not a mix, separatelly, were put in different parts, especially around helmet pins, in order to create something like a passage of time. 5. The sword scabbard was originally black, then I came with two layers of mix of Blue used at the shield and succesive layers of English Uniform, Orange Brown, two washuri with Smoke, until I liked what I got. Well, hope to like! Still a lot to do.

I think he must have missed you!! As usual excellent work mate! I couldn't see clearly on the earlier photos, forgive me if I'm wrong but do you paint the eyes in always at a later stage? For me they are always tricky and find it easier to get them out of the way first! Really nice work on the barrel too Nic! Shay

Hi Shay,
Just posting I've come back to the work. The eyes still need attention, I had to repair the slight difference between them. Well, no, that's not an usual way for me (even that I had two exceptions), but in this case I was afraid to not touch the face with metallics, it would have been more difficult to repair. I'm not sure that I'll stay on the idea with a battle camp scenery, barrels (the result of an experiment with Vallejo acryllics and an AK Dark Brown wash)and other things included. Thank your for your kind words! Cheers, Nicolae

The Barrel looks brilliant, love it! Do you plan to add it to an upcoming Base?? And any idea how this will look when finished? MAYBE an indoor Base could look good for this figure, but there are tons of possibilities for that. I am curious how this will progress!

Thank you my friends! As I said, I'm working to the unfinished projects, the Norman Knight is one of them. Still need to practice to make a good flag form Miliput, to paint it with something historically and thinking of a good scenery concept. I was satisfied with the solution found with my Teuton Knight. To answer to the question raised by Frank, I have two options now in my head: something of this type: or something like this: but in a more natural way: something between this product from Blackdog www.blackdog.cz/products/dio/fd005/1.jpgand this: It depends on my inspiration and sources. Hope to come back with news in weekend. Cheers! Nicolae

Hi my friends! Yes, I know, I was gone for some time. Some conferences and Cupa Carolina, IPMS Romania, Alba Iulia, 29-31 May (I've just received better photos, so I'll post soon a chronicle of the event), so no time for work. As I don't have more things to do to my Norman Knight, Spartan Hoplite and the Roman Legionary bust, I thought is better to come back to my workbench. So this is what I've succedeed to work today: the face and the hands of the Norman (a lot of patience work) and the exterior face of the shield. To my Spartan only the hair Hope you'll like some photos!

Thank you, Andy! The Norman knight will have the honour to be the first passing the line. Only if I could find a decent solution for the banner and the base (I give up to the idea with some wall behind). The Lokroi hoplite still needs some details added and a scenery a little more complicated. Cheers my friend! Nicolae

Thanks Leon, still some details to work, but after returning from a trip at Black Sea with my family. In August I hope to present all my last three projects in their final versions, bases included. Then, starting Hamlet bust, an Omaha Beach, a 1/35 mm D-Day diorama and a Napoleonian Polish Officer 54 mm. Cheers, Nicolae
