Hi there, I like the look of some of the vehicles that turned up between '45 and '85. One of them is the Leopard 1, the version I am going to attempt is the Leopard 1 second production series, a type of second run prototype. This has nothing to do with the Leopard 1A2. I'm using the Italeri Leopard 1A5 kit no. 6481, the Perfect Scale Models Leopard 1A2 turret, the Grochi Leopard 1 tracks (these are not quite correct) which I need to find out if they are ok, scratch, and bits from the spares box. r Here we go then:- the lower hull, ok so far: Upper hull with engine dummy: the not so cool miss fitting upper hull to lower hull: The anti slip is wrong on the kit version so it must go: to be replaced with Eduards floor plate, the attachment bolts are from an Academy Sherman kit, the cable for the indicators is 0.6mm copper wire, the bases for them were raised with plastic card as the attachment points on the hull also: Next up is the turret, this needs backdating but can easily be done. Mostly it's just a matter of removing certain parts:- The mantlet cover extension has to go: Then you need 6 screw attachment points: and 4 grab handles: The infrared search light, before the above mentioned changes: the power cable is made from an Academy hose with brass wire shoved through it. This is so the power cable does what I want, and what it wants to do: O.k that's all for today, I'll get some more done tomorrow. Cheers 1721Lancers

Delightful build, that tank is a part of my childhood as Leo 1 served in the italian army and we've got lots of training grounds round here

Thank you everyone for your interest in my newest project, here is a quick update from this afternoon: More on the turret, there are no attachment points for the stowage basket, so it's all down to careful alignment and good old guess work :- Right hand side Left hand side And the piece that makes everything look 100 times better, the RB barrel The commanders periscope is also in place and I need to tidy up the attachment points of the Italeri stowage basket. More tomorrow, if the sun isn't shining! Cheers 1721Lancers

Hi there, just a quick update from yesterday and today. the rear end, I scratched the lifting lugs and the towing hawser holding points, added the tow cable guides. I then checked my reference and realised that I don't need the lifting lugs , so they're coming off and the holes will be filled. Scratched the tow cable holders Scratched towing hawsers on the glacis Some work on the turret More tomorrow Cheers Paul

Nice build paul. I remember taking some of the guys over to one of these on ranges when we had chally 1, They thought it was not as good as a chally then I reminded them this is the German Leo 1 that was around the same time as the cent...soon changed their tune.
Looks a good kit too .

Thanks lads, I really appreciate the kind words Here's a quick update: The lifting lugs have gone:- Brush holders on the search light box :- Grab bars on the turret sides and a scratch built FlaMg mount, I know it's not perfect but it's better than the kit thing:- Paul

Thanks again people I've reached that stage of modelling where I just can't do an OOB build . I have tried many times but there is always some freakin' kit part that drives me crazy because I know damn well that it doesn't look correct, and this has to be changed. I guess you all know what I mean, I am absolutely sure the kit makers do this purposely, so the AM guys also get a shot in the game, and to annoy us ! Enough of that, the day we get a perfect kit will be the day the Irish admit that St. Paddy was a Brit . Todays update, I've fiddling with very small bits and cursing my sausage fingers and the drops of glue that are larger than the smallest bits I wanted to fix in place. Drilled the headlights out and will add these T62 lights left over from a earlier build:- Towing shackles with homemade retaining pins and etch chains from the spares box. ( I hate PE ) Two plugs and PE chains, the plugs are ejector pins from Dragon, the chains from the spares box. I have know idea what they are for ? The searchlight cable socket plug and chain, also from an excellent Dragon ejector pin Rear shackles with homemade pins and more PE chain. Yes I know they are upside down, this was how they were mounted on this version. The towing cable held them in place and also the tow cable didn't go as far down the hull as on the Leopard 1 A1/A2.... Hope you all like it, more tomorrow (maybe ) Paul
