With the paint down, I added a bunch of the extra bits to the turret last night. Still have a few more to go - some boxes over the rear tube thing, need to finish the commander's cupola...but wow am I glad I paused to add paint because there's no way I'd be able to get into some of those areas now.

Reached the official end of main construction last night. This one has been a slog indeed! Most of last night's efforts were focused on the commander's cupola. Despite the complexity and number of parts involved, it actually goes together quite well. The MG isn't glued down yet so I can remove it for detail painting and weathering. The other bulk of the work involved the rear fuel drums. The brackets for these had a very weird fit. I don't think they're supposed to sit at an angle like they are. Oh well. There are still some small bits not in place. A few boxes that need the paint-before-glue treatment, and the rear track and forward underbelly mud/debris flaps. Oh and all the spare track, which will be added later.

Paint went down tonight. Again, this is Mig's AMMO...specifically the Green Khaki out of the Modern Russian set. Still feels broadly similar to Vallejo or Lifecolor...has a nasty tendency toward separation. Not a big deal, but it's impossible to get a sense of when it will occur so it's tough to correct. Still like it for big base coats but I'd be very hesitant to use it for, say, freehand camo or mottling or the like. Next up - the camoflage. Still not sure if I'm going to try to freehand it or use white tack. Also reached that wonderful milestone tonight of being able to dump a ton of empty sprues back into the box. Now have room on the bench to potentially open up the T-26, particularly if the forecasted rain hits.

That looks fantastic Doogs. Well done. About the paint separation, any paint will do that if applied too heavily the first couple of coats if sprayed too wet over an unsanded "closed" surface. By closed I mean paint that has a gloss, like automotive top coats or in this case primer. I'll bet if you think back you'll find that this problem doesn't happen when a second color is applied because it is being sprayed over an open (rough) surface. Am I right? Anyway, try this and see if it works. Prime some scrap, let it cure and then lightly sand it with you're grit of choice. This will "open" the surface and should make the paint stay where it's sprayed and not separate or puddle.

Yeah I know what you mean...first couple of times it happened I figured it was because I was spraying too heavily. But...it happens when just dusting a surface. Or it'll happen on one part of a surface and not the other. Sometimes it disappears on a second coat (a la Lifecolor), but sometimes a second coat makes the separation worse.
It seems like it is definitely surface related, but I haven't seen any visual signs to look for. It's all just primer...

Well, if it's happening on some parts and not others and on some area's and not others, then I agree, it is surface related. You wash your build parts, yes? With what if I may ask.

Wash with dish soap and warm water. Rinse after and then air dry. The Mr Surfacer primer goes down without incident and does not have any lifting or separating or other issues. Everything that's happening is above the primer.

Ah O.K. I misunderstood. Let me ask you this, do you wash the build again before you start putting on the top coats? Maybe the handling of the kit between the two steps is re- contaminating the parts?
