Here's a little something I knocked together while waiting for oil paint to dry, etc. Inspired by T's excellent "Day in the sun". Did not turn out nearly as well as the inspiration unfortunately but so it is. This is an unnatural meld between two big time woofer kits left over from my Soviet armor series, the Zvezda T80BV and the Skif offering of the same vehicle. I tried to use the best elements of both, and decided to try standing water for the first time. The model is not accurate in the least, it was never intended to be considering it's beginnings. This was just a fun way to clear the spares boxes of some nasty junk which I could not bring myself to toss in the garbage bucket. You shall judge... 006 by mrkhartig, on Flickr 007 by mrkhartig, on Flickr 009 by mrkhartig, on Flickr 010 by mrkhartig, on Flickr Had to scratch the headlight guards as Skif did not mold them. I used Woodland's realistic water, got it too dark. The stuff also has a tendency to creep up on an embedded object and bubbles seem to appear out of nowhere; if I ever try this again I'll have to go with another product. Hope I've not hurt your eyes too much Regards, Mark

Same here I noticed it liked to creep up a bit. Used same product last week. I hated my first attempt. I re-did on top of first attempt. LOL And I was happy with the second attempt. I used toothpick to make water ripples and it worked much better. I did every five minutes until I am satisfied before it dry completely. Check my DUKW thread.
You can try again on top of first layer if you are not satisfied. But I do like the color of water you have chosen. That would have been perfect for my future Vietnam diorama builds! What paint did you use?

Hey Andy
I used MM acrylic raw umber for a base color under the first pour with lighter shades mixed with the next two. Some brushing on top of the dry second pour as well.
I could mess with it more but I've put as much effort into it as I'm going to since this is a let's-do-this-and-see-what-happens kind of a deal. I'm tempted to post this on a certain site we all know and love, then sit back and enjoy as the rivet counters burst blood vessels over it
Regards, Mark

LOL...I like it Mark!! And a bit flatter by the name drop too!! You do have to laugh about the 'Day in the Sun"...$5 kit and I only pulled it out to help a friend with some burnt rusting stuff and wanted to sap it together in on night more or less....why I didn't use the lower end, too much time. Don't you know the damn thing fetched Gold at a show!! LOL!! I actually like that creep my friend. Certainly indicative of splash up. Maybe with some controll light blasts wit some wet pigment (directional mud splatter using the AB and a paint brush) you can soften the blow a bit. She had to get into the mud somehow, so would have some across the front and sides and back for sure using the same pigments.

I like it, Mark. Maybe the water's a little too still, but the result is wonderful

If we look at many pics taken in Vietnam War... water usually looked still and so brownish. I thought that would be perfect for one of my future builds. Thanks for the info about the paint! Another reason to love MSC we are learning from each other here...

A huge gun, a massive MG, armor blocks, water and a guy havin' a soda. What's not to like? I like it.

Definitely not this guy's best day but he seems to be taking it in stride! Nice use of the spare parts Mark, would never know it was a collection of cast-offs.

Thank you kindly gents
At some point I'll probably splat a little more mud/dirt on it but on to other things for now. That means one day I'll look at it and get to thinking, always a dangerous time
