I have wanted to build this kit since I first saw it as a lad, true to form not enough pocket money and the parents were not going to allow me to have a 3 foot boat in the house!!!! Fast forward 30 years and I decided that I was now going to build this bad boy, only now I have a penchant for shiny extras......... So Great Little Ships had a new year sale, I had a little xmas money, the two made a loving couple lol The GLS brass is immense the main set that forms the deck and fittings is about 6 foot long then you add everything else and you have a massive undertaking! And this is the kit, the Matchbox /Revell offering is basically the donor of a few basic parts, the hull being the main. This needs a lot of work too correct, namely the keel, great as an aid for bonding then its gotta go!!! The stem bar is also wrong and requires reshaping, an the hull plates requires smoothing down as they are very thick in appearance. I decided to break from the versions in the box and hit upon HMS Anemone, a heroic little ship, that returned to dock on one occasion wearing 200 tonnes of ice!!!, she is a close sister of Bluebell so not too many mods required lol this one sheet for example is for the portholes complete with eyebrows There is also a staggering amount of white metal castings to accompany this etch, just have not photographed em as yet!! So those insane enough to join me hop aboard lol you will be more than welcome

I started of with making the corrections to the hull, there is still an amount of work to do, but the heavy dirty stuff is done, an boy was it dirty. A game of four quarters The removal of the cast on eyebrows The remains of the keel, took about an hour to saw it off lol and a better shape.... You can see by the flat bottom why it was said they would roll on a patch of wet grass. the eyebrows smoothed off and the plates sanded I then started dry fitting the plastic deck to test fit and see if it would be appropriate for supporting the brass from underneath. and the answer to that is probably not

Holy buckets Vlad, There's gonna be more metal than plastic on this one! I guess that's the best way to overcome the deficiencies of a 30+ year old kit! When you're done, it might stand up to small arms fire. Ambitious to say the least, but awesome for us land lubbers to watch this one come together. I'm with Dicky about supporting that deck with some re-inforcement to carry the super structure weight . . . er . . . Armor plating that your adding. Gonna keep an eye on this "flower" to see how it blossoms out.

Gentlemen, its good to have you along for the ride, hopefully it wont be too choppy lol
Feel free to poke me and laugh and insist how mad I am! I see the precedent has already started, but dont be shy at offering help and ideas along the way.....
Looking into the deck support as mentioned earlier, I quite agree it would make it a lot stronger........

Let us know how many pairs of eye glasses and changes in eye glass prescriptions you go through on this build. On a more serious note, a brief description on the various pe folding methods you use on this build would be interesting to know.

You know what SB the brass so far has been so large you can see it from the end of the garden lol As to PE bending, will try my best, but when I'm building I tend to forget about stuff

SB - I could give yer a breakdown of the PE folding methods I'd use with this lot.... Haphazard Innaccurate Cack-handed Cuss-filled I'm sure that Vlad will use a whole different set...I can't wait!!! All of the above but predominantly cuss-filled, usually the four letter word for a male chicken lol

So on with the build. Now the messy alterations to the hull are out of the way and before more plastic gets involved I decided a soldering marathon is in order. This way I can apply the deck and then move onto adding the plastic and white metal etc, all will come clear, I hope!! either that or the plan will change drastically. These four very large pieces of Etch are for the forcastle deck and have to be laminated together to give strength and the correct profile. Tada Notice the two long strips facing forward, yup these have to be shaped up at 90 degrees, whilst the long slivrs shape to the curve of the bow and are soldered into place. 1/35th jeep for scale at this point lol Then a thin bead of rivets has to be soldered to the inside of this vertical face, along its entire length Bullring (the ring at the bow) is folded vertically an four parts laminated to it to add thickness Next is the two hawse plates again several parts laminated to add weight etc Added behind these is some tread plate, this is the line of the anchor chains,. Also two small boxes for the fairleads Whilst on a roll, splinter shields, these are made of 6 parts each and a series of 'rivets' to be pressed through and breakwaters, these both interlock when fitted so should add a lot of rigidity! the large splinter shield has extra bits to be added as yet. the splinter shield for the hedgehog device...... before And after Davit supports, and the wardroom skylight And a close up of the wardroom skylight, 17 parts in total And all of this has been soldered so far feeling satisified
