DR - I read Peddinghaus does and there may be one or two other companies that may as well.

Looking great!
FYI the saddles were rubber, and highly thought of even today. Vintage and NOS go for ridiculous prices. The panniers, as molded, are the leather variety.
This is just too cool.

Thanks a bunch G...glad to have you along on this little guy. Sorry I don't know a whole heck of a lot about the saddle bags on this one, but I do know for a while they had the metal version. I thought these looked more like the metal verses the leather...the only thing I did notice Tammy missed in the 1/48 scale was the brackets that help them on. They opted for that raises piece of plastic to the top back side of the lid instead.

In scale the only tip off as to the construction of the panniers is straps. Leather had straps with buckles to hold the lid closed, metal had latches.
The leather bags fit on grommets at the top and the fender/back seat assembly had a wire hoop to prevent contact with the rear wheel. Metal bags had metal strap welded to accomplish the same purpose. That pretty much remained the same until the late 90's even though the bags were plastic by then.
I've owned BMW motorcycles since the late 80's.
