Hi all, this is a sculpt im doing of King Caractacus. He was King of the Catuvellauni in the first cent AD, His Father Cunobelinus made a pact with the roman emperor Cladius but when he died Caractacus said sod that for a game of soldiers and promtly broke the pact and invaded surrounding lands to increase the size of the Catuvellaunian lands. Claudius was not happy about this and promtly invaded Britain again to slap his wrists. For 10 years Caractacus faught off the Romans until the battle of Caer Caradoc, ( somewhere near the Malvern hills ) Caractacus fled to the land of the Brigantes but their Queen, Cartumandia, captured him and took him to the Romans in chains, Naughty girl . He was taken to Rome to be executed however he made such a moving speach to Claudius that he was spared and he lived out the rest of his days in Rome. OK history lesson over heres a few pics of the start, its going to be a bust and will be roughly 200mm, ill probably take it to about the waist to try and get a lot of detail in. There are obviously no pictures of Caractacus so im going off a picture i think he would have looked like in me head, so im thinking boxer or rugby player look with a few scars Ive done him with a heavy forehead and a broken nose, ( handsome eh ) and ill probably put a scar on his face somewhere. Let me know what you think, about right, over the top, or not enough Paul

moved on with the head, ive decided to try and get most of it done without firing it, mainly because i need to make the body and clothing before the hair is hardened as it will sit over the clothing. So i finished the head shape and added the ears, who would have thought ears were so complicated , added the neck and started on the hair, There will be 2 platts either side at the front and possibly one at the back, havnt decided yet. Im adding it in thick strands and then detailing each strand as it goes on If i leave it all soft for now, when the body is done i can the shape it to how i want it before it gets fired

This is looking great Paul, I love your rugby player/boxer look. When I started playing rugby for my Battalion team I once asked one of the older and much harder players how he got his broken nose, he replied he that he was talking when he should have been ducking. That aside great work look forward to seeing more posts. Dennis

Still waiting for the postie to bring the sculpey , i did though have enough to start the helmet. I always find then tricky things to do, especially in this scale, so first made a dome and then fired it, then filed and sanded it to get a smooth dome. Then chucked it in the bin and made another one. Fired this and then added some plating around the bottom edge and accross the ridge and also a few rivets. When this is finished i shall drill the middle out, as he is going to be holding it the inside will be seen. Then made the first cheek piece. Bit of raised detail on the cheek piece, only trouble is now i have to make another one to match Paul

Bruce i have no doubt that you will make an excellent job of it, if you have any difficulty getting what you want just let me know and ill speak to Dan Mitchell Few quick updates, ive hollowed the helmet out with me dremel I had a problem finding out what was inside, and its difficult to know as all celtic helmets that have been dug up have no innards because its all rotted. So im adding a sort of quilted liner, i cant imagine that there would be nothing inside as it would be so un comfortable And finally i also added the head to the torso, I like to make the torso shape evan though he will have clothes on, as it gives me an idea as to the shape of the clothes All for now
