Hi gents Having not been in a serious enough mode to fiddle with projects I need to be serious with I decided to start a couple of Academy M-113's I've had laying around for awhile. I found the kits rather disappointing given the amount of knockout pin marks, flash, mold lines, evidence of mold misalignment, and not so great fit. I'd come to expect more of Academy; must be older molds. The hull was warped on this one resulting in dry fit as seen here Three stages of glue and clamp got things more or less not noticeable if not right. In spots the parts were bad enough to require intervention such as this Got 'em to a dull roar now. One will be an ACAV, the other an M-132. Here's where they're at now Didn't figure to document the entire grind as we all know it well but I figured it may be time to prove I'm still alive Regards, Mark

Thanks gents
Regretfully this must go on hold, was dadoing wood on the tablesaw this morning and got bumped from behind, sending my left hand into the blade. I was very, very lucky and went into the upturning portion so instead of getting sucked in it bounced me away without mangling or cutting anything off. However, now that it's all taped and wrapped I'll not be able to hold small parts for awhile. It's also annoying when I bleed on my projects.
A week or so should see sufficient healing to carry on.
I feel like an idiot
Regards, Mark

Too bad for your injury sidelining you on your project. The M113 are my favorite IFV's! So get well soon! Jeff

OUCH! I felt your pain when I read it... glad you will be OK. Why did you have to use the table saw to cut something while you have plenty of big toys such as an AR-15 to do the job for you?!?
Take it easy buddy!

Appreciate the commiseration guys So now's me fingertips have grown back I've done a bit more here Please ignore the nasty rubber band track joint that I'll have to figure out how to hide I rather like the look achieved but the problem is the pigment used seems to want to depart at a touch just like pastel chalks do. What's seen here was accomplished by pigment mixed with water, brushed on, allowed to dry, then adjusted with a soft, dry chisel brush. Having not worked with pigments much I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or this is a limitation of the media. Any thoughts? Regards, Mark

Back from the dead Or at least the shelf In between work and work I've been stealing a bit of time and finally finished this thing 005 by Mark Hartig, on Flickr 004 by Mark Hartig, on Flickr 007 by Mark Hartig, on Flickr Some of you may recall the M-132 ended up with the Tammy M-48 that was finished awhile back. I was never able to get stoked over this model, likely due to poor beginnings. It turned out OK, not really great but at least it's off the shelf. Regards, Mark

Always good to get something off the shelf of doom and done Mark! Bucket #2 looks right at home and you can cross it off the list for good now.
