This is my Russian Beutespähwagen in German service. It's the kit from Vision Models, almost OOTB. I've built this just before Easter, for the "Winter Warrior"-contest on www.panzer-modell.de*This thread was transferred from MHISC forum*

The finished model: It was awarded Gold in the "wheeled" category and scored the overall highest rank in the contest: panzer-modell.de/specials/winter-contest/winter.htmThe blue headlight was questioned by the majority of the judges. I thought I've read somewhere that this sometimes acted as a makeshift when no other black-out devices where at hand, but I may be wrong! If someone has any information about this, I'll be glad to read it. Unfortunately I ran out of time on the figure, so the painting is rather basic. Anyhow, I think I will leave it as it is now, as this was the state in which it participated in the competition. Thanks for watching.

What I found out about the blue lens: It seems that some models of the flashlight issued to German soldiers during the war had a slidable blue filter. I also found an utility model lantirn from the war time on Ebay that had a blue filter, too. The blackout regulations, based on the Reichsluftschutzgesetz (air defense law) from 26.6.1935, stated that filters, coatings and covers are permitted to dim the light in such a way, that it couldn't be recognized by planes flying above 1.500ft. If coated blue paint was to be preferred, but this was usually meant for building windows, not vehicle front lights, where a slitted cover was called for, like Bill said. All in all I believe my front light is not totally off the mark, though it would have been definetely a strange and very improvised method. see also: www.zum.de/psm/ns/richtlinen.php
