I'd say the stout and salmon prescription paid off nicely Dave! Searchlight looks great.

Good morning Tojo72, Thank you kindly for the compliment. Today will be a day to get the barrel done. I may have to set up temporarily at the dining table….The temp outside has been below freezing for a couple of days and, now the garage is a big ice box. Good morning BIll, Yeah, the two paired nicely. Thank you very much. Dave

Now that it's a balmy 48˚F in the garage…. I got some work done the last couple of days on the barrel and turret. The RB Models barrel consists of 19 parts. Not including the styrene filler at the mantlet…..more on that later. It was certainly worth the work as, I would probably still be sanding the seam line on the kit offering. Not to mention replacing destroyed detail. The main search light with the mods to it. Stryene, lead wire, Grandt Line bolts. Bodies of the ammo cans are Tamiya. Everything else is Eduard PE. The PE here was certainly worth the work. Now for the styrene around the barrel I had mentioned. Where the barrel enters the mantlet, it had an odd step down that I just could not account for. So I cut a strip of 0.005" styrene and eliminated the step. It took some sanding down to get it to look right. But, again it is better than the kit barrel….which I'd probably still be working on. Dave

Shackles?!?! They have shackles? How did I miss that? I must focus on this build….that is finish it before I go buying more AM stuff. Andy, They're barrels are suuuuhhhhweeeet! More coming later today but, first, I have to get a few things done around the house that have been noiding me. Dave

Making good progress Dave. Got to love the look of that barrel for sure. As for the AM bling distraction, it's a common hazard these days!

Good afternoon BIll, Thank you very much. Really trying to stay focused. The turret is pretty much done…..with that, time to move to the front of the beastie. I replaced the kit splash guard with a scratch version. The thickness is much closer to scale. I did keep the kit cross bar as it has a nice rough welded finish that was too good to let go to waste. The kit fender spring was only molded on the top of the fender. It wasn't shown to run down and forward. So, out came the brass wire, lead wire and PE. All better now. The NSVT is mostly stock. No I did not nor do I have a brass barrel on the way. I added a couple of pieces of PE, lead wire and drilled out the muzzle. It'll be mounted permanently when the kit is all but done. It it were to get snapped off, it would most likely need to completely replaced. Dave

Good evening Luigi, Thank you good sir. That much closer to primer time! WOOOOOHOOOOO Good evening Bill, Thank you as always. That NVST is a monster. I found myself lurking after some AM. "No David! Finish what you've got on the bench. Then check your stash for all of the AM stuff you've already got." That's pretty much how the internal dialog went. I was by myself so, I can only guess the conversation was internal….. Dave

Good evening Andy, I'm kinda learning as I go as well. I'm still havin' a blast with this one. Good evening Bob, As always my dear brother, dang glad to have you along with your support! Good evening T, Thank you for the compliment. I'm working on it boss. Good evening Leon, Thank you kindly for the compliment. The splash guard was sanded down a wee bit. Much better now. Good evening rbaer, A most graciously accepted compliment. This evenings progress resulted in improved fuel drum and……. PAINT First! The fuel drums. There were a couple of mounting holes that needed to go away. These were filled with styrene and a liberal amount of Ambroid solvent cement. You can see the difference with the mostly finished drum on the left as opposed to the barely started drum on the right. There was a bit of pondering on how best to get rid of the molded on detail and, then I realized that I was working against myself. Keep it simple. Clamp the drum in the Panavise. Cut some strips of sanding paper in grits 600, 800, 1000, 2000. And sand thusly…. I took some liberty and used the PE drum ends. These look much better. Lastly…..the paint. I just needed to lay down some color and opted to use the paints shown. Left to right is for shading, base color, highlight. Dave
