BigJohn and the Boss did such a great job on theirs, I have a lot of pressure to keep up!
I got this from Steve a few weeks ago along with a few other of his goodies. I have nothing to put on it a the moment, but I thought it would be a good project to practice some paint and weathering. I've only done one other base before so I was a bit nervous. As has been mentioned before, Steve's castings are fantastic. I did a little sanding on the edges to smooth things out, and gave it a good wash in hot soapy water.
Once dry, a quick coat of gray primer, and then I hit it with some random grays, maroons and blacks with the AB using Vallejo paint. No pics of it in bare paint. I wasn't sure if I was going to screw it up or not, so I keep going without taking any pics of the base coats.
Once that was done, I started playing with he AK colors. I used streaking grime, and some really dark browns down between the bricks. I also did a bit of hand painting with Vallejo colors to get some different tones on both the bricks of the fountain, and on the street.
I really like the light green slime. It made for a perfect dead moss look between the stones. A few more coats and it would be a lot brighter for a more green fresh moss look.
A close up of the green stuff going on....
The Light Rust worked perfect for some light staining from the faucet. I also added a few tufts of yellow grass in the cracks.
The pipe itself was painted with a gray Vallejo color, then rubbed with the AK metallic pigment to give it a metal look. A little rusting on there as well.
And a few overall final shots. If I could have done anything different, I think I would have sanded the street blocks a bit smoother. As they are now, they have a really cool texture to them, but I was working towards more of a polished stone road, and I just couldn't get the effect I was trying for. Mine looks more unused, and abandoned. Next time I'll try to gently sand them down I think....
Boris, just chillin'. Still waiting for the tracks to get put on his JS2....
Thanks for looking!
