Absolutely stunning work until now !!!
If I'm right John (please tell me if I'm not), you airbrushed XF Tamiya acrylic paints on the chassis. Before you add a wash you spray on a fine mist of Clear or another (semi) gloss coat ?
Flat paint absorbs the oil washes, that's why I have this question for you.
Personally I spray on a fine semi gloss layer to keep washes flowing. The final result is also matt.
Best regards ! AG.

I should apply a semi gloss varnish but I'm a bit lazy So if I'm not careful sometimes I end up with enamel paint which is unable to be cleaned up. In this case I have been making the surface damp with clear enamel thinner first, then adding really a thin wash and working it before the thinner dries. Sometimes it needs more than one application to build up the wash colour. Cheers JT

Hi Eastrock, man that is lovely! Would you believe I am more daunted by a shiny showroom finish than a rusty one? Rust is easier for me I think Here I have put the wheels on loosely to see how they look. I see from the real thing that chrome lasts a lot longer than paintwork, so most here is intact. Some here is the kit's chrome parts, others are painted with Mr Color Silver and rubbed with Uschi van der Rosterns Chrome polishing powder. The chrome was aged with a light coat of dullcote, and sponged with grey here and there to add patina. Still more to do, thanks for following! Cheers JT

A true work of art John, worth coming back from holiday just to see your progress ......... Especially like the "dry, speckled rust" effect you have achieved on roof

The flat tires look so good, they complete the model, the chrome parts were stunningly aged.
Headlights finishing...the half open back...you gotta love this !
...I do !

Agree with Guy, those tires really 'sell' the derelict nature of this one. Looking good JT!

Many thanks for your comments! Hi Los, the interior I kept basic. Added some holes in the seat, And the rust and underneath were painted the same way. They were painted dark rust oil paint first, with rusty pigments dabbed into the tacky paint. After a few days drying time I airbrushed it a light coat of Tamiya flat earth, then brushed away some loose pigments. So here is how it ended up: Thanks again Gordon, the tyres make quite an impact I think! Thanks for following guys, cheers! JT

Oh yes without the tyres the whole build would have been worthless ....... I DON't Think So
As I said John , it was a real honour to be able to contribute in a small way to one of your now famous build/paint jobs.
Really pleased somebody asked about the interior , was wondering about that myself , as you say simple and basic but absolutely perfect for this ...... Out of interest did you use the kit windows ? & remind me how you achieved the streaking effect on the glass

John as always a most impressive and realistic build.
I have to admit I did not know this was in progress until I noticed it in Dr. Cranky's latest video. I recognized the name and had to come and look. It does not disappoint.

I really appreciate your great comments everyone, thanks!
Gordon I used the kits front and rear windows, but the broken side window was a piece of clear plastic, the stuff everything seems to be packaged in these days.
Making them dirty is something I've struggled with. Before now I've used various acrylic paints and streaked them using acrylic thinner or windex, but these liquids do cloud the plastic and the effect didn't look right. I wanted something water soluble but I had no watercolors at the time, so I mixed AK Interactive Worn Effects Fluid and Earth coloured pigments. Airbrushed on, in a very thin coat as a little is quite visable. Then when dry I used a fine brush and water to add streaks. The effect was the best so far I thought, and easy to remove and redo if necessary.
Thanks again for following, cheers! JT
