When I saw Marcel's KV Walker I had to grin, as I'm on a similar model at the moment, too! With my other projects on halt because of my window issue (hopefully this will be fixed tomorrow, weather looks good so far), I was looking for something less laborious and found this: A friend of mine started playing the tabletop game "Dust Tactics" this year and was asking me to show him some tricks for painting his gear. He said he wanted a DAK-scheme and that the models come primed in grey. I felt the best method for him to achieve good looking and quick results would be the HS technique. However, I couldn't tell him get yourself an airbrush, so I needed acrylic paint in a rattle can for the job. Enter Humbrol! Being always satisfied with their paints in the past I gave the desert sand acrylic spray a try for this one and have to say it's really good. The range of colors is a little limited at the moment, but it dried quick, smooth and dead flat. So he brought two models from his starter kit for a workshop to my home and I showed him how to do it. He would paint his "Lothar" and I did his "Luther". This was the result, the work of one afternoon: However, while handling the model I fell in love with it and decided to have me one also! We were talking about the game that afternoon and the different tanks. It was then I had the idea of a "Befehlsluther", as I thought a star antenna would look really cool on this!

Thx Dupes, I know what you mean. Luckily the Jagdluther was well under 30.-€, that was ok for me. IMHO it's the best looking "tank" of the series. For my own project I decided to do some clean up first, so I disassembled the model as far as I could without breaking too much off. After two sessions of filling and sanding I primed the parts in Humbrol acrylic German tank grey and then applied a filter of shadow rust from the AK range. Then I applied some AK Worn Effects liquid with my AB prior to base-coating, but not without making some changes before. Speaking of a "Befehlsluther" I got me some stuff from Hauler beforehand. They have a lot of quarter-scale add-on's for German tanks. I bought grilles and a star antenna with base for a Panther, German tools, German smoke launchers, a turned brass MG-34 from RB-model and even some "Dust" decals, the original ones! I also added some black-out lights from the spares box, these come from a Dragon Sd.Kfz.250 "A". For the base-coat I choose Gunze acrylics H336 "Hemp". I think this is a perfect late war German Dunkelgelb, right from the jar. Glad I found this, I'm going to use it again.

So, this is where I'm currently at: After base painting I applied another coat of worn effects, then came a mottling of Tamiya XF-78 deck brown (as RAL 8020 Gelbbraun) in form of the Octopus scheme, made with an Iwata HP-BH and self adhesives from Uschi van der Rosten. A coat of worn effects again(!) and over this went the markings. Mostly different stencils from Stencilit, airbrushed on with some off-white color. Further an aircraft identification panel on the top from a self-mixed Italian "rosso mimetico" and also varying warning decals and the winged skull from Dustgame, these were applied over a glossy base. This was then carefully sealed under several thin coats of XF-86. Now I can soon start to micro paint and also the fun part of weathering with enamels! Thx for watching and comments welcome! Oh, forgot: the tactical sign is from Archer, 1/72 scale...

Not much of an update, but some progress. I think I finished the airbrush work today. Did some weathering, again with HS. Soot and grease on the guns and the legs, a little pre-dusting... For example please note the scratches in the dirt deposit near the gun bearing from the recoiling barrel. Did the same effect on the legs where some dampers must be installed. At least that's what I think! I did also some detail painting with the brush, chromed and greased the pistons, rusted the exhaust a bit, painted the hoses. And I installed the tools that were painted previously. These don't come with the kit but are from Hauler. The gun cleanings rods however needed to be made from scratch. As always thx for watching and commenting.

Coming along nicely Tobi, it's always the little details that bring a build like this to life.

Way cool build, great details and beautifull weathering. I guess it takes action in a desert so it looks very promising. Plans to add some figures or a coresponding Base?

Thank you Frank and yes, you're right. I'm hoping to get a diorama scene set-up for her and it will be in the desert.

Maybe I have overread it, but what scale have we here? I ask because of figures you might add, maybe sculpted or a conversion?

The scale is 1/48 or at least approximately. The mesh screen from Hauler for the Panther did fit almost well. The figures are resin, I can't remember the brand at the moment. I think one set is Gasoline.

1:48? Cool, than you can take Tamiya Figures for basic and transform them. If you wish. But anyway, if there are some good resin figures, no conversion is maybe needed. Heck, so much work to do, so little time...

I hear ya Frank! Started to weather this beast, but the work is slow, or is it just me? Not so much progress. Only one leg and part of the chassis so far. Here the two legs for comparison. I hope it is noticeable which one received the weathering treatment?
