Well after seeing that OUTSTANDING fledermaus, I got to thinking..................And yes I realize I haven't finished my other project(s) However by creating this tread now, I always have a fall back when I get board.
So I have my plans for converting the single seat to a dual seater. The second crew member will be a gunner/weapons officer.
Many moons ago while very board I started the gun for the project, I bought metal barrels and tried a host of options.... After getting inspired this AM I created, or laid the foundation for my German SF3D 30mm Chain-gun, dubbed Strange Music III.
Here is the begining

So, this concept is similar to the Republic A-10....they built the gun first, then the plane around the gun My fledermaus is using the same design concept....with that, here are pic's of my Rheinmetal 37mm Chain gun , the mount as it is, and the battle light....very similar to the SF3D Krote. It will be synced with the gun once mounted sorry the last is a bit blurry

Hehe, fat weapon. Exactly the stuff, the Fledermaus could be made for. Some kind of armored suit hunter like a German Panzerknacker Plane in WWII. Or the good ole A-10!

Thanks to all...............
Eventually the Fledermaus will be armed with two 50-mm wing cannons, air to ground missiles similar to the "fritz X" system and of course the 37-mm chaingun

First off,
to those that asked the "chain gun" is 100% scratch built..... just something out of the deep dark recesses of my feeble mind. Or just lots of plastic bits and pieces............ but thank you for asking abooot it
Any who.....here are some update shots, mostly of the cockpit detail
A couple of quick corrections.. The Hammerhead Radar is now the Wotan XXI and I think scale wise the 37mm is actually 30mm
Please don't let my gaffs confuse you

Thanks for all the kind words............. My Fledermaus is a true labor of love. I was inspired my the Krieg Adler Project. My version will end up with a Gunner or WSO in the rear. Upgraded engines 55mm or 75mm outboard wing cannons. Mostly I work on it when I get overwhelmed by the Ferdinand

PICS!! This sounds very interesting, especially the idea of adding a GUNNER at the heck. How will you solve the space problems for the gun turret?? I am B-17 fan and think, this will be a great idea. Can´t wait to see you handling this. And now for the second Babe, ahem, I mean FLEDERMAUS! Wing cannons sounds cool anyway, but what about some rocket launchers or rockets in general unter the wings??

So to answer franks' question, concerning weapons in space.............
As far as I can ascertain the Fledermaus is not an outer space vehicle. It is a weapon system that flies with in the Sky. And thus the weapons are or can be conventional. I base this on some research and the fact that the original is armed with two 7.62mm Machineguns.
Next, I am still toying with the idea of updating German WWII Fritz X flying bombs and mounting them underwing..........
Cheers

Weapons in Space? Sure, but the Fledermaus or the Hornisse are no outer atmosphere fighters (the Stingray is). Maschinenkrieger vehicles have on the one hand laser beam or particle weapons on the other hand Panzerfäuste or bullet weapons. The last are, in my eyes, the more interesting things. Do not ask why, I have no idea. Maybe because you can add magazine packs or ammunition feeders, all that stuff. I will look more mechanic this way. Think of the two FALKES: One with a Gattling gun, which is mucho more interesting (for me). But at last, all depends on the look and how interesting it is. A flying Bomb beneath the Fledermaus sounds more than interesting.
