Hello everybody, This is the other bust I got at MMSI. It's general W. S. Hancock. I have a tremendous amount of respect for this man. My Civil War ancestor (general John F. Hartranft) knew him, and thought very highly of him as well. In fact, they are buried in the same cemetery. Here we go.

Thanks Leon. I was surprised when I found out I am related to a general (later governor of Pennsylvania). I am hoping to get a little more paint on him this evening.

Thank you guys. This one shouldn't be too difficult to do. I really think it will take longer for the paint to dry (I use oils) than it will to actually paint him.

Hi Bruce!
I think it's something specials to discover such connection. And a more emotional implication in this hobby. I like the bust, I'm curious what brand is it. You've got a good start, I'm waiting to see your next steps, the oils should help you have excellent tones on face and jackett (even they are drying longer then acryllics). Cheers, Nicolae

Thanks Nicolae. It's from Artist Preservation Group. I looked at their catalog online, and they have a few more figures I may need to get.

If you add a small amount of baby powder to your paints while still on the pallet it will cut your drying time to a day. It may take a few tries to get the hang of it, but it dose work. The bust I posted last month was done this way and it was dry to touch within a few hours

That works pretty well. I like to mix the oils with enamels too. That works pretty much the same way.

Actually Andy, I didn't spend anywhere near as much as I could have. Believe it or not, I spent just over $100.

Thanks Bill. 25 years ago, I had no idea about my cousin. It was just by chance I learned about him. After doing a little more research, I learned he ended up a general, and I actually have a picture of him standing next to Hancock. I hope to be putting more paint on him in the next few days.

Hello everybody, I managed to get a little more paint on him again last night. I kinda like how he's starting to look. Yes, he is a little glossy, but that's why they make dullcote. Thanks for looking in.

Hello everybody. While waiting for more glue and filler to dry on Katy, I picked him up again. The face and hair are pretty much done now. I still have to paint the braid, and finish shading the shirt, but that's about it. Thanks for looking.

Thanks Andy. I painted a Frederick the Great bust quite q while ago. People told me they thought he was looking at them. This guy's eyes aren't far from it.

Hello everybody, I am making slow progress on Hancock right now. I managed to get the base coats on his braiding done, as well as his stars. The hat cords are woven gold and black material. The stars were embroidered in silver. I still need to work on his shirt, bur he's coming along pretty well. Thanks for looking in.
