I've finally had some time to get something done, and the space. This dio is bloody vast. 3ft 2 by 2ft 8. One trip to the stationary shop later and I've finalized the layout, for now. This be it. This is the best image i've found so far to use as the background. Quite how im going to make the pic fit the background remains to be seen.

After a loss of me mojo and a few small models to get me brain back in gear i'm restarting this. I want the dio lit by night but as a rule FOBs tend not to be lit like an Xmas tree. My idea for the back ground is a dull over cast sky. How to do this elluded me for quite some time. Then, last night I had me brain wave. Grease proof paper. What follows is me proof of concept. The background is white plasticard with a mottled covering of primer grey for a bit of texture, covered in two layers of paper Then for the night time i wanted to light it with moon light. I cut a hole in the plasticard, painted a moon on some plain paper and put it over the hole. Then with a few LEDs behind it. The pic doesnt show it well at all in the dark so this next pic is with some ambient light and is much much closer to how it looks to the naked eye I am massively pleased with how it turned out, far beteer than i expected.

Hi all. Sorry there's not been any updates for a while. I've had some health issues that have taken my head out of the game. Well on the mend down so i've finally had some shed time. And bloody nice it was too. Anyways back to the plot. I wasn't happy with the trees I had so I've got some more appropriate ones. 16 quid for 20 from Howards scenic suplies. I've got another pack coming to thicken out the forest some more . I've been thinking about how to make snow on the cheap. Several fails later i gave up and bought this 22 quid very well spent. It arrived the next day with a hand written thankyou note. I ordered two bottles of snow and the sieve. I got the two bottles of snow, the sieve, a bonus pack of snow and a bottle of frost. I can't recommend them enough. Fantastic customer service. I did a quick test on one of the trees. For a first test im am seriously chuffed. I've also been thinking about how to suspend the Harrier that's landing in the back ground. I don't want a support pole that ruins the illusion. And then I had a scotch egg. Looking at the pack it came in I noticed the clear plastic packaging has a slightly distorted surface. Perfect for simulating the exhaust plume and holding it up. Problem solved. Hopefully things will stay on track and lots more updates to follow.

Now that's what I call a flash of inspiration for the in-flight Harrier. Neat!

Evenin all. Sorry about the delay. I've been pondering exactly how i'm going to do the base. I'm pretty sure I've figured it out. The start of it anyways. Below is what I think the final layout will be. The trees are all blu tac'd to a black cardboard template. The ground will be sloping upwards. I tried it by lifting the back edge of the card and it looked really good, for the 3 seconds before the blu tac failed. I spent a while working out the positioning of everything. The Harrier has to sit front and centre and it took some playing to balance everything out. Let me know if you can see a better way. All advice greedily accepted. Next up a lighting test. I should hopefully have enough lights on the one 25 LED string. There's two in the Unimog then the rest will run to the back then up to light the moon. For the raised ground i'm going to key the whole surface otherwise nowt'd stick. I thinking papier mache for the bulk, or polystryrene if i can find any. Then cover the whole thing in plaster. From here on in i'm on a proper tight budget so money saving tips greatly appreciated The Unimog won't look so bug eyed in future, promise. Now i'm going to beg for any and all advice. Below is a pic of the base i'm using. It's composed of a layer of plasticard , some form of mega tough foam, a sheet of cheap wood type sheet then another layer of plasticard. My first problem is thus. I need to have a back wall. What's the best thing to make it with and how to attach it? It will have to able to withstand 100 miles on the back seat of me car. Hold the LEDs in place for the moon While not wobbling or falling over or falling apart. It will be sitting on the base as it needs to be in 3 sections of equal size. the two outer ones angling forward as the near the side. I have more sheeting so I can use that . Which would make the LEDs easier to hold as they'd sit nicely in the hole cos of how thick it is. But how to attach it.. Any ideas please let me know. Cheers Another quandry is what to use for the final surface layer of the base. I need to push tyre tracks in it and the sheets of psp for the Harrier wheels. I don't want them stuck in yet, just leave an impression. Plus its got to be able to have the trees glued to it, they all come with flat root bases. Thankyou in advance.

Evenin all. Sorry about the big delay again. My health prob is not quite as sorted as i thought. 9 months without a fag and i'm still out of breath going up the stairs. Bugger. Anyways. Here is what ive finally achieved. To make sure the trees are stable i've glued wire to the trunks which i'll then glue into the base Next i knocked up a road , I glued some wet and dry onto plasticard and painted a yellow edging stripe. Next the PSP. Corrugated plasticard cut into strips. 3 sprayed with white, 3 with grey and 3 with black primer. Then i sprayed them BMW silver. (Guess what colour my car is) and then a final coat of badly sprayed olive green to make them look well used. Finally the base itself. I ended up using insulation foam at the back and papier mache covering it all. Then a final covering of filler. I had to use flexible filler as the base itself flexes slightly, plus it will have to survive a 100 mile journey on the back seat of my car. And then a generous coat of acrylic raw umber as the base colour.

Evenin all. Good news. of sorts. Lung cancer and Angina have been ruled out. Still no idea of what the problem is though. But at least I can loose myself in this. The trees are now permanent fixtures and i cut some green paper to roughly the same shape as the trees and put it behind the grease proof paper, so hopefully it looks like they're hidden in fog. Then onto the cam netting. I used some form of bandage (No idea what it's called) I cut a kitchen sponge up and used it to print patterns of pva on the bandage, then I sprinkled tea leaves on . Then I sprayed it green It still needs a fair bit if tidying up And the corrugated plasticard has been cut up now and here's how it looks laid out It finally feels like it's all coming together now. Hopefully another update will be sooner rather than later.
