So it begins! After the U-Boat on water and seeing a diving sub in Act of Valor I knew I had to try making my own sub underwater diorama. So out I went looking on how to cast clear water and found this article with a partially submerged tank. Submerged Tank
The goal..... Periscope_Depth by -Hickory Hill Photography-Step 1 - Make a test mold and test sub. I painted up a spare 1/48 drop tank in similar colors. Then I made up a 3 bay mold to try a couple different variations in color. I painted the bottom of the first one with Newton oil's Prussian Blue. Other two were left clear. All Photos-59 by -Hickory Hill Photography-Then we mixed up the casting resin. I used Castin Craft's Clear Casting Resin with drops of Createx Wicked Blue. Left to right, Bays 1-3. Bay 1 & 2 had 10 drops of blue added. Bay 3 had 20 and you can't see anything. All Photos-63 by -Hickory Hill Photography-All Photos-62 by -Hickory Hill Photography-Now it's just a matter of waiting for it to cure, then we'll pour another layer.
