thought i'd join in, this is the reboxed ICM kit by revell, managed to find an eduard pe set and zimm set for this , also replacement barrel, ive'had the figures for years, just waiting for the right kit to put them on!. first question, the kit comes with candle rack smoke dischargers, did the ausf 'd' use these? I've found some pics from the ardennes era all ausf D'S looking pretty battered but no smoke racks? also, any tips on appling pe zimm?

I'm in the front row for this one DR! Love the Big Girls! Can't wait to see what you do with this! As for the Candle Rack, I guess the handwriting is on the wall as they may have not been on most of the variants, unless you are going for a specific portrayal, if you like the look go for it! Either way, it's your build brotha! LOL...I'm not too much help in the Zimm end of things either as I don't willfully go for the stuff...but here is a link to a decent SBS by Phil Appleyard on the application: zimmerit-it.blogspot.com/ Good luck on the build!

Did you get the Eduard PE zim? If so, when I used it I applied a coat of the gel type CA to the back of the sheets. Do a test fit before gluing to see what the best position is for each piece and be careful on your alignment when you lay it down. You'll also probably have to use some putty to finish off the edges. The sets I've previously used fit height wise, but were not quite long enough and left a small gap on the ends.

looking at photos of the Panther D, you can divide them into early and late. They debuted at Kursk, and even that's interesting. Some had zimmerit and a few didn't. Some had the smoke dischargers and many didn't as well. There seemed to be quite a few Panthers in Italy, and they look different in many ways (mostly stowage layout). Looks like all had zimmerit. They kinda look like a Panther D late verses a Panther D IP.
I'm putting parts together on two Revell BergPanther D's right now. One will have the PzKw IV.H turret, and the other will have a 37mm flak ontop it. Pictures are rare, and will employ some artistic license in the build. I don't think BergPanthers used zimmerit, and that makes it a little easier. The left over H hull will be used in another project. gary

Looks like we'll both be doing D's !! How cool! I'm planning to do mine at Kursk , so it'll be interesting to see the differences between the early and the late model Ds. As for the smoke dischargers ...They were removed very early ,so you're good to leave them off.. I'll start my own post probably tomorrow ..I'll be doing the Dragon kit .. I have quite a bit of info on the panther so if anyone needs anything I'll do my best to help out . Have fun with it !

I did find out that the Panthers at Kursk did not have zimmerit. Most did not have smoke dischargers, but a few very early ones did. These were often removed due to fires. There's also a commo port in the early Panther D turret that was deleted early on. gary

Maybe you can check your mantlet, there is way to much space between the barrel and mantlet and the barrel is to deep in the mantlet looking from here. On the pic you see what i mean. Would be a shame if see it when paint is on it.. Great work on the PE by the way

Looking great! You are not alone... I made similar mistake on my Tiger with the aftermarket barrel. Had to insert a spacer to make it work...
Looking forward to your next update!
