Hi, gents. I have no idea, why did I buy this old and not up-to-date model. Moreover, now I have a kind of “creative crisis” - a lot of models not finished, no inspiration ((. The best way out – to finish a Tamiya model. But, I don’t look for easy ways…..

Love the box art... we are supposed just to have fun and enjoy our hobby. You have my attention... I think I built one or similar one when I was very little. LOL

This will be fun. I've actually heard that this kit isn't all that bad...at least with fit etc...naturally it's not going to be as highly detailed OOB, but it's the perfect base for some scratch gizmology I'm in.

I decided to update my model a little with parts from Academy’s P-47D. You remember the kit’s engine: Academy’s one is much better:

Thanks, guys. I cut out lower part of revell's engine and glued it in place in cowling. With some spacers, academy's engine fits nicely, not glued yet. Panel lines are rescribed.

Built this one a few years ago. I maintain that my two favorite Jugs in 1/48 are Tamiya and Revellogram. Fit is pretty good (wing roots need shimming or filling), and it builds fast. If you're planning on doing Arlie Blood's ship, be aware that the decals for the cowl flaps do not fit. Easier to just mask and paint them...

thanks for the warning, as I planned on doing a Tamiya in that scheme. By the way the new Vector sets fit the Revell kit, and they are really nice. gary

Thanks, guys. I'm going to replace kit's bomb pylons with the Academy's ones, they are more detailed.

I don't think a full panel-line prescribing on a 48th Jug counts as a "little update"!

Awesome work on the Jug. Built a few of these classic Monogram kits over the years and always looks the part.

I wouldn't apologise for anything you've done here. The kit may be old, but I see all the new scribe lines and extra bits you've added. Some of the very best built models I've ever seen have come from mediocre kits which have seen a careful time investment on the part of their builder.
I wouldn't worry about picture quality during the blog either. I love the clean and perfectly exposed photos we see with a lot of our "in progress" projects. But a dirty old workbench with dried glue and spilled paint in the background adds great legitimacy to a partially done model.

Whoa....really great way to update the kit. Looks superb and the weathering will make it sing. Given the scope of the work we will excuse the delay in getting us this latest update Proceed, sir!
