Okay. Got all the green down last night. Except on some of the still-to-attach bits like the pioneer tools. Next up will be the tonal variation in places. Parts of the turret boxes, the side skirts, hatches etc.

It's amazing how much tonal interest you can bring into a single color with these painting techniques. The following steps are really going to set it off.

It's going to be fun. I've got a bag full of tiny little tattoo ink cups...just going to put my green mix in, then add literally a drop of another color and use that. Rinse and repeat with tan and gray and olive green and dark brown and...

Looking forward to ripping this technique off I've been kinda thinking about doing something very similar on the Uhu RLM 76 when I get around to it. To me it looks like a great way to eliminate the need for dot filtering...since I absolutely hate that whole process..

It looks great. I've been around the block enough to know it's more pronounced to the naked eye too. It's going to all blend together perfectly I think.

Had some downtime with the F-5 last night so I decided to bring kitty back! Gloss coat (Ammo gloss varnish) ahead of four or five decals and then weathering.

Decals went down last night. All seven of them! First time using Takom decals and they seemed fine, kind of impervious to setting solutions (no wrinkling etc). They went down well enough, though and settled in nicely.

Skuze me for totally missing this, really neat stuff (as usual). It's making me want to do two things: one, get the -2A5 back in progress (stalled for paint) and two, think about branching out a bit, like as in less Tamiya and more something else.

Definitely give Meng and Takom a look. They're doing some really interesting work of late, and I'm looking forward to Takom's new Chieftain series. Still love Tamiya armor, too. I'm this close to spinning up their M60A1 with reactive armor. It'll probably spur AFV Club to release theirs...

Nice to see this one come back around, bet the decal work is a walk in the park compared to the stencils on the F-5.

This is such a cool Leopard variant. Looks great! For some reason (probably that they were the main tanks on the field when I was growing up) I really like tanks of this particular era. Any and all variants of the Leopard 1, the Challenger 1, late-service M60s. Today's tanks are impressive and all, but they don't seem to have as much character as the stuff tooling around up through Desert Storm.

Looking the do(o)g's danglies! Thumbs Up! Canvas boot is a tricky one - maybe use some Vallejo Oiled Earth wash?

Aircraft and armor really are different beasts. I swear, paints and other things that work splendidly on one completely fail on the other, and vice versa. Case in point from last night - Ammo's panel line washes. Work wonderfully on aircraft. On a tank? Get ready to scrub like nobody's business. So now I've got dirty lexan shields and side skirts.

More C2 fun last night. Biggest breakthrough was finding a whole shedload of pics of this exact tank, with lots of walkaround/close-up type shots that really blew a hole in some of Takom's paint callouts. For example, the mantlet boot is more of a brown/drab shade than khaki, and the tools are all painted black (there are some additional black details I'll be paying attention to tonight). So in addition to more progress on the wash, I took care of (most of) the tools, and masked and repainted the boot with a mix of Gunze Olive Drab and Red Brown.
