this is my first serious try in building a diorama. I did a lot of research and readings in the past few month, now i want to try all the techniques i read about.
I am happy about constructive critics and also about positive comments... ;-)
Background: A part of the leichte Flak-Abteilung 91 (mot) from 1. Flak-Brigade is stationed with the brigade hq in Chateau Gallo near Le Havre. The crew of a SdKfz 10/5 with a 2cm flak 38 is positioned behind the chateaus lake. Taking a spot near a gate in the stone wall to the chateaus estate, the crew took also one of the companys Flak Scheinwerfer 36 on his Sd.Ah 51. Provisioned with some additional fuel for the generator they are blocking now the small field road behind the estates wall. It is some time short after sunrise and the crew is getting ready for the day...
the bushes were made out of a wire frame and then island moss glued on the wire frame. after that the whole bush was brushed with olive drab and sprayed with hairspray and sprinkled with flock material...
the details of the miniart figures are sometimes a little bit vague. but with a little work on the details the figures aren't that bad. i changed the heads with hornet heads.
ok, now we are getting to the status from this day.
i added some more groundwork around the tree, so that i isn't looking floating above the ground any more. and the supplied chair in the figure set won't fit in my concept, so i scratch build a small park bench...
Well Coro, it appears you do like to work on the dioramas!! Quite a bit of work done to this one!! I like the layout for the HT a lot! Keep plugging away on this one!!

yes trm, i spend more and more time in creating the diorama ideas than in the next concrete model... model building is part of it for sure, but the most fun of it is building the dio then and bringing all together to a story...
You've got good reason go be proud of that tree (and everything else you've done so far with the ground work on this one). Very nice!
thanks wbill... feels good to get all this positive comments. keeps me going and trying to improve the work... ;-) but also i welcome constructive critics in points where i could improve.
so for that i got a small update with the park bench...
If this is your first diorama, imagine what the next one will look like!! Excellent work so far mate, you obviously have a great eye for detail and I will be following your progress as it comes along! Cheers, Shay
Coro69 this diorama is really looking great, love the layout. The tree and rock wall shows that all your studying has paid off. Nice touch adding the figure on the bench reading a book, the actual ground work looks very realistic especially the variation of colours and texture on the road.
first i added some more greenwork at the pond... next time the reed will be added...
and now the part about i am quite not sure if it looks right... i added some tall grass next to the road and the fence. but it feels not right... the grass still has to be coloured... i am not sure about the "density" of the grass. whats your opinion??
I jumped to the bottom of this page and immediately wondered where the model was that you'd set on the ground by the fence outside to showcase. The realism here is astounding! Even after closer inspection, this is simply photo-real. Well done!
Hey mate, The tall grass...all depends on which colour you wish to use for in the scene. Personally I would thin it out a little more...but that's me! Is there anywhere near where you live to get a real life comparison? Maybe also adding extra grass around the bushier bits might bring it more into scene. I had to have a little laugh(not at your work!!) but I have exactly the same park bench on my cobbled terrace, the metal framing in a dark green! Excellent stuff, this thread is really enjoyable to see how everything progresses!! Keep it up mate, Shay
