Ever watch one of those movies a bunch of kids have practiced their brains out and when they get to the big show the group just before them hits it out of the park and they loose all heart and don't feel the need to go on stage? I have and that's pretty much how I feel after the incredible builds by doogs and Jimmy. Be that as it may all I can do is do the nest I can. (and copy some... many... most... OK, all the techniques from those 2 builds. When I opened the box and tok out all thge bagged sprues I didn't know how I would ever gat them organized. My little files sorter looked so...well... little. But I magaed to get most of them in order with ajust a few that will rmeian in the box until needed. AM stuff collected, so far, are the Fundekal sheet for Marine F4U-1a's, Barracdue tires amnd Vector cowl flaps and doing this bird...

This will be fun. You're going to love the kit. I'll likely be doing one before 2016 myself since I want a wing folded one also. The Bareacuda resin is some of the best out there and the cowl flaps are a big improvement.
Looking forward to it!

Thanks guys.
Jimmy I toyed with the idea of folded wings but for a 1st ever Corsair build I just gotta have those wings out in their full glory.
Yeah T, it's gonna be fine. I just have to not get caught up in trying a new technique and not getting it just so and then trying to fix, fix, fix and have it end up looking like shixxxx poop.

There's nothing wrong about doing Corsair... one of my fav WWII fighters even tho I rarely build something with wings.
You have my attention of course! I predict it will be done by Feb 14th so it will be given to your wife as a Valentine's Day gift...

Oh yeah, that's what's I'm giving her. (Ya know, there's just no way to really do sarcasm in text) It will definitely get me more bench time. Because any other "activities" will ceae for sure.

Progress has been slow as I wait for a couple of things. 1 is a Vector resin R-2800 motor. The other Tammy Corsairs went with the kit engine so I decide to go a different route. A kit in itself with 78 parts. The other is having the time to get to the LHS for the Barracuda stencil set for the cockpit. Doogs recommended a different set but someone didn't take the set they ordered so I told my guy I would. So far just chromate and black and i tried to get as many arts ready for each color as I could but there was still a lot of color changes in the AB. A mock up of where I am now. And now today's trivia question. How do you bring slow progress to a wheels locked, screeching dead spot? Step on the windscreen and crack it down the middle. Gotta tell ya... that's the closest I've come to cryin' during a build No clue how Tammy is with getting new parts out so I hope I haven't turn this in the best engineered $100 box of spare parts.

WOW! Often I wish those clear parts are better protected... very fine auto sandpapers may make it go away?

Yikes Marc! Usually Tamiya sells kit parts by the sprue, so you'd probably have to order a whole clear sprue to get the canopy replaced. No idea how much that will set you back but should definitely be cheaper than a full kit! I don't think any amount of polishing/sanding/repair can mend a full on split like that.

Andy that's a bonafide crack. A scratch may have been able to be saved but not this.

Just got off the Phoenix with Tamiya USA. When I told him what the kit was he said, "That's so new we don't have the parts trees yet for replacements." I could feel myself starting to well up But the CSR asked what I needed and I got a "Hmmm... hand on..." Put on hold for a sec and comes back saying he has a clear parts sprues that had been cannibalized from em kit that was missing a bunch of parts. One of the parts left on the sprue was a beautiful intact P16... JUST WHAT I NEED. On its way at no charge. And THAT my friends is how you run a customer service department.

Glad to see you got the replacement you needed without much fuss. Tamiya has a pretty great reputation for getting replacement parts out from what I've heard.
Things are looking good so far! Can't wait to see what the resin engine looks like. That should be a fun endeavor.

Yeah, i am pretty excited about the way it all worked out.
The Vector engine came today. All I can say is OMG! I would not be surprised to see an infomercial at 3 AM one day with this being advertised as a "male enhancement" product. Pics soon.

Now in all fairness...and self-deprecation...isn't that what all aftermarket is? I looked it up on the world wide interwebs and I concur...it's neat looking. Now...get to building it and post pics

It's so sad when a good kit has to die. But thank God for good kits that want to help after their gone by making sure their donor card is up to date. It wasn't in a cooler filled with ice... but the new windscreen arrived yesterday. As soon as I put the finishing touches on the winter 109 I'm gettin' back at this one.

Let's all take a moment to mourn the passing of our dear friend the selfless donor kit who gave it's last bit of life to make the life of another kit possible.
Now snap to it! The MSC Corsair triumvirate must be complete!
