Hi guys, This will be my first bust entry (#1 of three) and first attempt moving away from my preferred scale of 54mm! I chose this particular figure as I see it as being quite a challenge...due to his morbid features. With a face "only his mother could love" I'm going to relish getting his skin, teeth, veins and nails looking as disgusting as possible! Bust head is perfect, the hands will need some slight cleaning up here and there. Sorry for the quality of the pics. Fighting a viral infection at the moment but I will try and start on the cleaning up process. Cheers, Shay

Hi Shay! Indeed only "his mother will love his face"! I'll follow with great interest how you're gonna give life to this member of the "Legion of the damned". Even that I prefer the historical subjects, I had to say that I've seen very interesting products, as this amazing "Goblin in love" from Michael Kontraros. shop.bestsoldiershop.com/epages/14739.sf/it_IT/?ObjectPath=/Shops/14739/Products/MKC_BU002So, I hope you'll have a good start and already pass over the health problems! Nic

Nic, I won't have any money left if you keep on posting up new figures to check out , but that Goblin is superb!! Still haven't been able to shake off being sick, off to the doctor tonight... Here's a link to their site mate... YS Masterpieces. I'm not entirely sure but this particular one might be OOP?! Agree with you Chris, the bust itself only needed a minimal amount of clean up. Maybe we could do a duel build within the group? Thanks for the push guys! I managed to get a few moments in yesterday getting the bust & parts all cleaned up and primed. After seeing a number of you using the B&W primer method I had a go at it myself. The depth is really starting to show up already, simple but effective tip! So here is Mr Handsome so far (he really needs a pedicure and dental treatment!!)

is this just a light mist of white primer over the black primer?

is this just a light mist of white primer over the black primer? Oli, this is the first time I have tried using this as my base coat before painting. I first sprayed all parts in a matt black and then left them to dry properly. Once dry I placed all the parts up right and sprayed with a matt white in a vertical motion up from above. The idea being that the white only falls on to the facial areas that are highlighted...tops of the ears, nose, cheeks, lips etc. The black is then kept intact where shadows fall....crevices of wrinkles, inside the upper ears, under the nose and chin. Unfortunately I don't own an airbrush so I used some quite expensive spray cans. Ideally an airbrush at low pressure is best from what I see from the other guys! Yeah baby we do indeed!! Wouldn't want it any other way Really looking forward to getting this one started, thanks for the comments so far...I'm going to get him to look disgusting as can be!! Shay

ok, now i get it... hey fortunately i stripped the paint from my figures so i give i a try right away...
when you are just in figure painting i understand that you don't own a airbrush. most of the time you are sitting with a tiny brush in the hands... ;-)
by the way, how long does your fine brushes hold their tip??? my 0 or smaller brushes hold their tip at most for 2 - 3 sessions...

Coro, I experience the same, I take very good care of them, and they loose their sharp tip after two or three sessions, the brush tips start curving. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, and it's getting expensive too !

i think one problem is to keep the paint out of the rear most part of the brush. sorry i don't know the english word for that... and when the paint drys there it ruins the tip... i think... i always get paint there... :-(

When it comes to brushes, typically "you get what you pay for" comes into play, or so I have been told. The more expensive brushes tend to hold their shape more when taken care of, but there is no reason to break the bank though. Be sure to keep the brushes clean. After a final cleaning a brush restorer can help.

so i have to experiment a bit... when a 4 euro brush tends to keep its tip for about 3 sessions and how much longer will a 12 euro brush hold... calculated it must hold its tip at least for 12 sessions... :-) i already do not use the cheap brushes, but they aren't the most expensive also... something in between... grrr, maybe i should be willing to spend some more money on brushes...

Cheese!! I have managed to get some colour on today! As usual I stared with eyes and proceeded with the teeth, the bigger "bung eye" has been given some more depth by glueing a small rounded piece of lead to mimic the actual eye. Afterwards glossed with high gloss to give them that nice shiney look! This bust is so much fun to work on
