I guess, Lucas is right! Maybe some more shadows in the folds? Or is it the light of the pic??

Yes Lucas is right Frank its could use some more dark shadows. The only thing is I don't like dark shadows and that's the reason that I`m not a good figure painter. Maybe some folds could just a little more shadow but I`m always afraid to ruin my work if the shadow`s are going to dark.

Use washes then, if you dont want to use oil colors. GW washes work very good for example, made not too good experiences with MiG and Vallejo (but maybe I used them wrong or so). GW is a "fool-proof" thing. Your decision of course (ask 5 people and youll get 8 different answers!). Agrax Earthshade would work best here most probably. And if you find the effect too strong - thin them with water.

I paint only in Vallejo and LifeColor and thin them with water. No problem till now at all. I show you two of my 30mm figures, they are all painted in layering technic and gradually shaded: modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/thread/8235/small-scale-stuffTake your time and maybe practice on a scrap figure, some military stuff from Dragon with lots of folds and details. You will be amazed, how easy it will come up! Frank

Indeed, practice is neccessary. In case of doubt use thin layers instead of one.

Hi Ron,
The oils are fantastic doing leather, I've seen brilliant results. Your pilot, he's a good looking veteran,no doubt about it! Cheers, Nicolae
