Well time to start another project. This will be a familiar one with just a bit of a familiar twist. This will be for a tribute build on YouTube. The Year of the Dog. More soon. Joe

First up will be to show you what I have begun to collect for this build. For most this will be enough to tell you what the twist will be. More to come..... Joe

Many thanks all.
Funny I put the sign there and did not even think of what it could mean. I hope to be starting the actual work today.

Dupes...the answer might be in that massive pile of white S**t under the box!! I just wasn't sure if there was a raft of aftermarket getting involved as well. I have one of these kits sitting in the stash that has EVERY set made for it (got it in a trade). There's so much that I'm scared to even start it. Sort of defeats the purpose of getting all the bits, doesn't it?

Dupes the extras are going to be done by me with a few exceptions. Loving that challenge. I do however have a visible Fort that I have a number of sets of AM stuff to go with it.

Wow Joe. I'm still taking a break to clean-up my workbench and you're already diving into a bigger project than your 109. I think I'll look over the shoulders of the crowd in the front row as you create another masterpiece.

Rick I am just thrilled to keep going. Finishing a large project is a bit depressing. Thankfully I have many projects I want to get to so sitting around is impossible at this point.
Not sure of the masterpiece part. I cannot help but look at others work and feel that it is so much more polished than mine. Someday I will achieve that look, I hope, and then I will feel I have reached a milestone in this hobby.

Many thanks but tonight was the real start.
No pics but I worked a bit with the dremmel and the saw and have holes cut in the fuselage. I still need to work on cleaning them up.
I spent two hours grinding and sanding the interior detail away also. More on that later.

T a good friend is calling this the Joe style now. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.
Regardless, it is a path chosen and a style that I am enjoying.

Just a quickie of an update to show the first cuts. Large chunks have been cut out to show different areas of the interior. What you see is after six hours of grinding, sanding, repeat. This will turn out good, I hope. You will also notice I have drilled and then cut out the access doors. These will be cleaned up and the edges thinned a bit. Next up will be to clean up the cuts and move into the interior with grinding and sanding away that detail. All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged. Joe

Man...this is going to be so good. I'm stoked.
Wanted to ask you if you're working off reference books or photos you find online or what. Reason I ask is that I have the Squadron Walk Around book stashed away somewhere. It's got some phenomenal photos in it. A lot are from the Fort we have here in Galveston. Just thought I'd mention it if you're looking for references.

Many thanks.
Jimmy I work off of a couple of books that I have as well as photos and diagrams. I was fortunate that I was able to contact a gentleman in the UK that was in on the restoration of Sally B. I, with his permission, saved several hundred photos of his. All told I believe I have roughly six hundred photos.

To be honest, this is really what this kit deserves to take advantage of all of the included detail plus the avalanche of aftermarket that's out there. Still glad that it's you not me!

Joe, after reading the book on the Regensburg / Schweinfurt raids, one thing that was commonly pointed out as a weak spot on the B17's was the location of the oxygen bottles in the cockpit. They are under the seats and on the wall behind the pilots. Burnt like fire works. gary

Thanks all.
I do have a ton of aftermarket stuff for the 1/48 Fort but I still do not want to use it. I am saving it for a very special project.
