Not to take anything away from the other thread building the Camaro SS, I have started my attempt at this Revell kit. I had the paint in hand and needed a straightforward build after a long diorama project. We can fast forward to the primer stage where I have cleaned up the body, filled knockouts, and primed with Tamiya fine primer. I plan to paint this with Scale Finishes Chevy "Infernal Orange" with the two tone interior and matching engine cover. Below is a picture of what I am trying to attain and I e-mailed the owner who told me that it was all stock, so i will be adding the front diffuser and side skirts.

Well, making progress. I got her painted the other night and cleared last night with my clear coat of choice, UPOL. This is a synthetic lacquer much like Tamiya clear but much cheaper. I decanted some for the first four lighter coats but then carefully applied a final heavy coat with the spray nozzle. Came out killer with just a couple of minor glitches I need to polish out. These occurred when dry specks of clear came off the tip of my airbrush while coating. Of course, this isn't an armor model so I couldn't try to pick them off or cover them up with dirt later. No, I had to bury these with clear and level them later...much more difficult. NOW ON TO POLISHING!

Looking great with the body!!! It does take me a few days to spray clear coat after the body paint... but seeing your build it looks slick

Well, I finally got around to taking pictures of my progress. The following are the finished undercarriage and suspension with engine installed. I opted for a slightly used vehicle with exhaust heat staining. Also the front and rear of the body with window moldings, under hood weatherstripping, and chrome rear tail light bezels painted freehand. Now the bad part: This has to be one of the worst Revell "new tool Limited edition kits" I have ever built, really a disappointment. First, every part was loaded with flash, mold separation lines, or knockoffs. It was a chore just getting the parts ready. Second, the plastic is of poor quality and doesn't scrape/sand well. Additionally, there was some a little ghosting of the plastic even through Tamiya primer, which has never happened to me. Third, the engine installation was a joke requiring grinding of the catalytic converters and oil pan as well as shortening the exhaust mainifold pipes. Fourth, The design of the suspension and its installation is head stratching as there are two locating holes to the rear for the front and flush mounted attachments to four other points. These came apart when trying to install the engine btw. I am crossing my fingers on final ride height. Fifth, the front headlights are incorrectly displayed outside of the grill when half are supposed be behind, and there are no black relief or separate parts for the black driving light bezels. and 6th: the rear taillight bezels are chrome on the real car and had to be painted which was only possible by hand painting with chrome silver paint because these are recessed. Chrome bezels should have been provided. Finally, the rear back up lights are only recesses in the bumper with no lenses or even a decal. The builder is left to figure out how to detail these. So without further ado, the pics.

I think it's probably the amount of polishing required keeping me from building a car kit...yikes. Looking good Mr. Lowe!

Looks great, Gil inspite of all the troubles you encountered, we have the same issues on the engine, I did some modification on it to make i fit on the kit.
Cheers!!!

Thanks guys, I just get frustrated when modern tooled kits have unacceptable shortcomings like this. Makes it a less enjoyable experience and are usually expected in older kits. Anyway, I am on to applying decals and working on the interior.

I have finished the interior and the decals, and am ready to install the glass. I am getting pretty close with this one. I thought I would share the two tone interior below with a picture of the 1:1 interior I am trying to depict. The RS/SS interior. my interior: Body color on door panels and Dashboard, Hugger Orange seats with a dark orange filter/wash. Interior is hand painted Vallejo German Gray with dashboard details picked out with various colors. This is an OOB build so i just painted and dry brushed rugs.

Thanks, guys.
Eastrock: Yes more problems with this kit. I dry fitted it and noticed that there may be a very slight gap on one side when installed but will probably disappear once everything is together. I am also reading about possible ride height issues with the stock wheel positions and of course Revell still insists on using the outdated "metal axle" thing. I wish the mfg of car models will stop attempting to make these kits toys by designing them to roll. IMHO, they should commit to static examples.

Gil, mine is still evident on the passenger side, I hope Revell makes a new mold that is totally re-tooled not base the mold on diecast stuffs... so much for the special edition

Yes, I noticed that gap but got it to fit like you said by applying glue and holding it. I actually glued the whole glass unit (one piece glass, another throwback) with 5 minute epoxy but used some CA to glue that problem corner. I also adjusted the ride height of the rear wheels as it looked too high. Since the rear wheels are supposed to attach with the metal axle, I eliminated it and used a piece of plastic rod which I cut to length and added only for the underside aesthetics, then I used the pins provided for the front wheels and drilled holes to make them fit on the rears. Following that, I redrilled the middle locating holes above the originals on both sides and located the wheels higher. So this model was created based on a diecast? Didn't know that. That would explain its lower quality. I should finish within the next couple of days. Just the ground effects to add and some small detail painting and touchups. Will post pics soon.

Hi Gil, I did to re-sand the roof since I did put a clamp with some tissue... it left a mark on the paint with a tissue pattern lol. I'm still on the 2nd stage of polishing. I'm a much slow builder when it comes to auto, we could put a pic together side by side. yes if your notice most of the revell kits have metal rods as wheel axle same with the diecast counterparts. that makes some wobbly fittings even would the hood hinge. Cheers!!
