A quick update showing the fuselage together, the wings on, and the tail feathers attached. I am really impressed with the fit and the clean attachment of the wings and tail feathers. Not much for seams at all. Now to sand them out and get the little bits on. All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged. Joe

Many thanks.
Always seems like a huge step when the fuselage is joined. In truth it is pretty minimal.

Wow ... has it really been two months since my last update on this? I guess so. Guess I should show what I have done huh? Not much really, the interior is ready to go and the canopy is now firmly in place. She is ready for paint. Paint is next. All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged. Joe

Are those the kit-supplied masks? I've never actually tried them and wonder how well they adhere.

Looks great just sitting there ready for the paint shop. How long did it take to put all the masks on the canopies?

I was in my storage room earlier in the week, and found four SB's. Several sets of photo etch for them. A.M. did a Hell Diver, and have never seen the kit! I want one real bad and two would be heaven. Their between the wars aircraft are outstanding, and when they were still in business I was wanting them to do a P26, a B18, and a B10. I really liked their P39, .and still have a pair in the stash. They should have done a P38 series. I'd say my third or fourth AM kit was the B25b. Still un-started. Then along came a couple C/D's, but really wanted the B25g. Finally got one a few months ago. There is no such thing as a bad AM kit! You can see that because everybody wants to use their molds! This is one long lost company that needs resurrection!
I really like what I'm seeing in your build Joe (as usual). Also have learned that there was some SB's at Pearl Harbor. gary

Many many thanks.
Dupes they are the kit supplied masks. The usefulness of them though is subject to arguments. Some are fine but others do not fit or will not stick.
Rick all told maybe 15 min or so for the masking. Where the kit masks did not work I used my white glue method.
Gary SBD's were there both as Navy and USMC. SBD-1's on the ground at Ewa and the Navy had -2's inbound and on the ground at Ford Island.
Again many thanks.

Many thanks. Well my friends here I am again. After a bit of rough sailing with the paint I can update the work in progress. The painting process was: Flat Black overall. Model Master Aluminium Plate on specific panels, Model Master Neutral Gray sprayed in a very random pattern, The same sprayed concentrating on the panels. The look is very subtle but should be picked out ok with pin washes. There was an issue with a sandpaper like surface appearing after the initial spraying and the second spraying of the Gray. It was knocked down with 1000 grit sandpaper. The engine was sprayed Gloss Black, Alclad Polished Aluminium, and then the crankcase drybrushed with Flat Gray, The "wires" were painted to instructions as Red (Empire Red). Overall I am pretty happy with the results although the rough texture was a confusing situation. Still no idea of what it was or why it happened. Next up is application of decals. At that point for the most part this build will go dark. I will post one photo of the finish but I am trying to determine if this will be written up or not. All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged. Joe

Looking good Joe. I recently watched one of the AHC's show about Midway...again... and there was a segment with an SBD pilot describing his attacks and he Japanese carries. In combo with a CGI it was pretty intense.

Nice progress in the paint department Joe! Pebbling can occur with the paint if it's starting to dry in the air before it hits the model surface. Sometimes that means the air pressure is a touch higher than it should be, sometimes it means the air itself is dry (Low humidity) and causing it to happen, sometimes it means the paint isn't quite thin enough. You get the idea...can't always pin it down to one single factor.

Many thanks all.
Bill I have been having this issue for about the last year or so. Random as heck but very annoying. Seems to pop up for no apparent reason. I did thin out the paint just a touch more after reading your response. I had to respray the upper nose. Filled in the gaps under the gun cover.

A quick update. A couple of things. The aircraft has been glossed, decaled, and glossed again. The wheels and hubs have been prepped and painted. Not looking too bad to be honest. Now the finishing touches can be added. Flaps, wheels, weathering, cowl, prop, and antenna wire are left to add. A final Matte coat to finish it all off. Not far to go on this one. Also with this update I come to a point where I need to decide whether to write it up or not. I am just not sure on this one. If I do write it up she will go dark until I get a yes or no from the editor. All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged. Joe

Looking good with the gloss-decal treatment Joe. That's when you know an AC has really taken on its own identity IMHO.
