So it occurred to me yesterday as I was adding yet another 5 tier shelf to the wall of unbuilt kits that I own, that I have never found a really good way to stash my stash and be able to easily see what I have! I changed it around from storing by type of subject to type of manufacturer yesterday and I am not sure what I like better.... here are a couple before and afters. Before... annd after arranging them into manufacturers.... What does everyone else do to stash the stash?

I find sorting by manufacturer makes more sense - box sizes tend to be similar that way and allow better/more efficient/sturdier stacks (Dragon!).
Of course, some of them have multiple box sizes which screws that system up completely (Trumpeter and Tamiya).

Like Dupes, I sort by manufacturers due to same box size especially Dragon and Trumpeter kits.

I sort after themes:
Aircraft, Ship, Civilian, Wehrmacht, Allied, Soviet, Modern, Figures, Houses, Vegetation, Aftermarket, --> Wheels Tracks Interiors Engines Guns Stowage PE... this I sort by manufacturer indeed and try to keep track with Excel!
Works for me, but I'm a chaotic character with good memory. I hardly buy anything double by accident, though it may have happened 2 or 3 times...

I mostly do the same thing as the others, it's all down to box size compatibility vs. the shelving space available! Wherever possible, I keep similar subjects together but that's secondary to the space efficiency question.

I have mine sorted by country the kit represents. Commonwealth armour in one section, US armor in another, IDF over here, aircraft up over here, a few Soviet kits over on the end of this shelf, down under this work bench 1/25 truck & construction equipment kits and in this dark corner, misc NATO kits. Oh, wait a minute, where have I stored the 1/24 car kits? I have collected mainly 1/35 and have re-arranged my storage/stash a couple of times. The aftermarket items I try to squeeze into next the kits. With approximately 150 kits and/or conversion kits, it works pretty well. And I keep everything on an Excel spreadsheet in an effort to avoid un-wanted duplications. It's a sickness, I know, but I really don't want to consider the cure.

I was going to start a new thread, but think it broadly fits here too: spent the last however many days refurbishing actually finishing one of our storage rooms. This is what it looked like after filling the numerous gaps and holes - the Black Hole of Kalcutta: Bare walls and plaster board - German crafsmanship at its best And this is what it looks like now: All of my stuff is soviet, Lend/Lease or trophy tanks (Beutepanzers) anyway, so organised mostly by box size. All AM stuff gets put in the respective kit boxes.
